Spring Back Into Road Repairs

George with DOT

Department of Transportation (DOT) is springing back into road repairs with an innovative new road repair process. George joined DOT to witness the new road repair methods in action. Asphalt Rubber (AR) Chip Seal is a blend of liquid asphalt and crumb rubber, which is derived from recycled tire rubber. The rubber in the material binder is resistant to the effects of aging, and helps prevent cracks in roads. DOT started using AR chip seal and cape seal, for a double or triple layering process with Type 2 Micro Seal, which can prevent minor road cracking for up to 20 years. Using this effective form of road treatment will allow for better short-term road maintenance and long-term road planning. Creating safe and sustainable roads for El Dorado County can be a dangerous and difficult job, so please remain aware and respectful when approaching road work.

Wagon Train Tradition Returns

The Highway 50 Association will be hosting the 72nd Annual Wagon Train from June 6– 12, to embrace our cultural heritage by bringing local history back to life. In 1949, the first modern day Wagon Train was formed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the California "Gold Rush". The Wagon Train travels west from Lake Tahoe to Placerville along Highway 50, following the "Roaring Road" pathway that wagons traveled entering California. The tradition honors the struggle that people endured to seek out a better life for their families, and provides a modern way to experience how life was in El Dorado County when California became a state. The Highway 50 Association provides a Wagon Train itinerary, gallery, events, membership and sponsorship information.

It's Time To Draw The Lines

County District lines will be redrawn as a result of the 2020 Census. County District lines matter because elected representatives must live in the County District they represent. The changing demographics of El Dorado County make redistricting important for the future of political representation. To ensure a transparent process, El Dorado County created a redistricting website, which answers questions, provides draft maps, and lists election information. Voters are encouraged to get involved, attend public meetings, and let their voice be heard. More information about the redistricting process is available from the California Secretary of State and California Citizens Redistricting Commission.
