Concerned Citizens Clean-up Day

Cameron Park Clean-up Day Photo

"We had a great turnout of volunteers working hard to help support the residents of Cameron Park.”

– George Turnboo

George joined the Concerned Citizens of Cameron Park on Saturday (4/24) to help clean up trash in the community. Volunteers from all walks of life attended to lend a helping hand cleaning up trash from an abandoned encampment. The Sheriff’s Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) was also on hand and a number of off-duty law enforcement officers volunteered their time as well. The event was successful and our community came out to show their support.

From the Mountain Democrat:

“The group Concerned Citizens of Cameron Park was joined Saturday by community leaders, business owners and law enforcement officers to clean up an abandoned homeless camp and illegal dumping site behind Goldorado Shopping Center in Cameron Park. Volunteers put on their gloves and spent the morning filling up dumpsters, trailers and trash bags. Among those helping out were El Dorado County Supervisor George Turnboo, the sheriff's Homeless Outreach Team, owners of Wally's Pizza Bar and Churchill’s Hardware and off duty sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Liekauf, Sgt. Eric Palmberg and deputy Nick Jones.“

SOFAR: Biomass Facility

The South Fork of the American River (SOFAR) Cohesive Strategy is working towards making our forests and tributaries safer and more resilient. By working with the USDA Forest Service, SMUD, CAL-FIRE and other interested stakeholders, the SOFAR group has been discussing ways to bring a biomass facility to El Dorado County. Several pathways have been outlined to gain funding through state and federal grants, self-funding and including project partners.

Creating a biomass facility will help El Dorado County sustain itself. Biomass facilities can burn forest waste, agricultural waste, household waste and other waste products, with almost zero emissions. In some cases, by-products can be produced from biomass facilities that are used in many industries, and create potential sources of revenue. The facility would relieve the need for waste landfills and even produce electricity. Cogeneration biomass facilities provide both electricity and heat, which is produced from burning waste. El Dorado County will benefit greatly from a biomass facility by helping with forest management and preserving our lands from waste. Local residents are encouraged to get involved in SOFAR projects.

Local Agency Formation Commission

The El Dorado Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) is a regulatory agency with countywide jurisdiction that provides governmental structure for unincorporated areas. California established the commission to discourage urban sprawl and encourage the efficient provision of basic services. El Dorado LAFCO is made up of commissioners from all over the county, at different levels of government, working to better serve residents in El Dorado County. The commission works with local agencies to provide guidance on projects, special districts and new applications. El Dorado LAFCO provides information about composition and operation and more resources to help the public better understand LAFCO policies and guidelines.
