Historic Resources

El Dorado County has rich history dating back before the gold rush era. Over hundreds of years, our region has undergone many changes, which helped build the communities we live in today. The stories, mines, and railroad are examples of local history that have been preserved through the years. El Dorado County works to preserve our history in many ways, such as the Historic Society or the Historic Design Zoning Overlay. El Dorado County was one of the most populated regions in western North America at one time, and we want to preserve our historic resources for future generations to experience.

Outdoor Burning Information

Outdoor burning is useful tool for vegetation management, but there are inherent risks involved. Due to the risks of fire in our region, the El Dorado County government carefully manages outdoor burning through a strict county permitting process. Specific days are determined by the county as having better weather for outdoor burning, and the process must be completed a certain way for safety reasons. When performed with a permit, on a “burn day” and in a safe environment, outdoor burning can be a big help with property vegetation management.
