On January 11, a week after being sworn in, the Board of Supervisors got off to a good start with a Good Governance Workshop. It was an especially valuable time to gain a deeper understanding of the difference between governance (the board's role) and management/administration (staff's role).
Among the key learnings, governance entails...
-
Systems Thinking: Understanding that issues, goals, problems and expenditures are not isolated events. They are part of a larger whole.
-
Strategic Focus: The role of the BOS is to provide strategic oversight to the daily operations of county government, making sure that actions and policies align with our mission, values and goals.
-
Moral Imperative: This is the drive that bridges individual differences through a shared commitment to a unifying purpose. A moral imperative also enables individual bias' to be set aside in order to achieve a stronger level of collaboration, productive disagreement, trust, respect and cooperative leadership.
-
Deep Learning: Committing to making decisions based on knowledge, data, and a firm understanding of issues and community.
Our next steps will be to review our Strategic Goals, ensuring that our actions and policies are in alignment with where we want to go. Stay tuned!
On Tuesday, January 26th, there will be a Public Hearing on the Board's agenda to consider adopting a Resolution of Necessity related to the Diamond Springs Parkway Phase 1B Project authorizing the commencement of eminent domain proceedings. This will be a 2:00 p.m. time allocated agenda item. What this means is the item will not be called before 2 p.m. To access the full details, click on the link below:

This will undoubtedly be a fluid process. That said, Carla Hass, EDC's Director of Communication and Outreach, does a very effective job in keeping accurate information up-to-date on the county's website. Click on this link for the latest news: Vaccine Information
It is my pleasure to welcome two new appointees to the District III team.
MARIAN WASHBURN has accepted an appointment to the Commission on Aging, and KATHLEEN JERMSTAD will serve as the District III representative on the Fish and Wildlife Commission.
Marian and Kathleen both have the knowledge, experience and commitment to our community to make a meaningful contribution on these two committees.

It's a lot harder to make a difference."
