District V Supervisor, Sue Novasel Updates and Input Newsletter

Below is information regarding the Draft SR 89 Corridor Plan. Please read as this plan will have huge impacts on the West Slope and include changes not just to those areas (Emerald Bay, Meeks Bay, Rubicon, and Tahoma) but will also impact the way people travel from the South Shore to the West Shore and North Shore (and vise versa).

Draft State Route 89 Corridor Plan

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, and Tahoe Transportation District are happy to announce the availability of the Draft State Route 89 Recreation Corridor Management Plan.

The Draft SR 89 Corridor Plan is the result of over two years of planning with over 15 project partners, hundreds of stakeholders, and thousands of public comments. The plan outlines a potential future for the corridor that focuses on environmental improvement and quality travel experience.

The Draft SR 89 Corridor Plan is now available at www.trpa.org/SR-89.

SR89

State Route 89, a two-lane mountain highway, is the only access route to many of Lake Tahoe’s popular recreation areas and to several of the residential neighborhoods along the West Shore. Emerald Bay, one of California’s 36 National Natural Landmark sites, is one of Lake Tahoe’s most popular and photographed locations. Almost 12 miles of undeveloped shoreline offer beach access to sites such as Meeks Bay, Sugar Pine Point State Park, Baldwin Beach, Taylor Creek Visitor Center, Tallac Historic Site, Camp Richardson, and Pope Beach. Seven trailheads provide day-use access to waterfalls and alpine lakes as well as access to Desolation Wilderness for overnight recreational opportunities.
