The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Highway Maintenance Worker I/II/III. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time, and extra help vacancies for up to three (3) months in South Lake Tahoe, CA. only.

We currently have the following vacancy:
  • One (1) full time vacancy in the Transportation Department, division of Maintenance and Operations, located in South Lake Tahoe, CA.

A training and experience evaluation will be utilized to determine an applicant's ranking for referral to specific vacancies.  Based upon the information in the application and/or responses to the supplemental questions, the applicant's education, training and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula.

DEFINITION
Under general supervision, performs both routine and skilled heavy, physical work in the maintenance, repair and construction of roads; operates a variety of vehicles and hand power tools, and operates and maintains a variety of complex motorized construction equipment.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Highway Maintenance Worker I
is the entry-level class in this road maintenance series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of duties in road maintenance, repair and construction. This class is alternately staffed with Highway Maintenance Work II and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency, which meet the qualifications of the higher-level class.

Highway Maintenance Worker II is the journeyman working level class in this series. Incumbents are expected to perform a wide range of general road maintenance duties. This class is distinguished from Highway Maintenance Worker III in that the latter operates specialized heavy equipment, such as graders, caterpillars, backhoes and related equipment.

Highway Maintenance Worker III is the skilled level class in the operation of heavy construction equipment. It is distinguished from Senior Highway Maintenance Worker, which has on-going lead responsibility for a work crew and from Highway Maintenance Worker IV, which is the highly skilled specialist in the operation of specialized heavy equipment.

ELEVATE TO EL DORADO

The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Vector Control Technician I/II - Extra Help with the Department of Environmental Management. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future extra help vacancies in South Lake Tahoe, CA and Placerville, CA for up to three (3) months. If you are interested in an extra help  position of Vector Control Technician I/II within the Environmental Management department, please submit your application.


We currently have the following vacancies:
  • Two (2) extra help vacancies located in Placerville, CA
  • Four (4) extra help vacancies located in South Lake Tahoe, CA

This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling extra help vacancies only that may not be transitioned to regular employment.  These extra-help vacancies are expected to work the season which is tentatively planned from March 2020 until October 2020.  The actual start and end dates of the vector season are dependent on weather conditions, and are made to maintain adequate coverage of work for short periods of time at frequent intervals, where employment is of a recurrent nature depending on the needs of the Agency; work may be seasonal, on-call, and/or for a limited duration. 

 
DEFINITION
Under immediate and general supervision, implements plans, controls, and eliminates harmful insect infestations throughout the County; assists in the identification of vector-borne diseases and the implementation of practices for their control; assists in the calibration and maintenance of equipment and upkeep of vector facilities; and performs related duties as assigned.
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives immediate and general supervision from the Environmental Health Specialist Supervisor. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.
 
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Vector Control Technician I:
This is the entry-level classification in the Vector Control Technician series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of routine vector control and maintenance and inspection duties to eliminate of harmful insects. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; close supervision and frequent review of work lessen as an incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the II-level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.
 
Vector Control Technician II: This is the fully qualified journey-level classification in the Vector Control Technician series. Incumbents are fully competent to independently perform full range maintenance and inspection duties to eliminate of harmful insects. Positions at this level are distinguished from the I-level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
 
Positions in the Vector Control Technician class series are flexibly staffed and positions at the II-level are normally filled by advancement from the I-level after gaining the certification, experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications for the higher level class.
 
This class is distinguished from the Sr. Vector Control Technician in that the latter provides technical and functional direction to lower-level staff and is responsible for the more complex work.

This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. If you are interested in the position of Transportation Engineer / Traffic Engineer within the Transportation department, please submit your application.

  • One (1) full time vacancy in the Transportation Department, located in Placerville, CA.

IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT
The ideal candidate for this position will have at least twelve (12) months of professional traffic and transportation engineering experience at a level equivalent to the County's class of Transportation Engineer, and ability to obtain registration as a Traffic Engineer. Candidates must possess or have the ability to apply for and obtain within one (1) year, valid certification as a registered Traffic Engineer issued by the California BPELSG (Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists). If you are not currently registered as a Traffic Engineer in CA, click here to see if you are eligible to obtain registration within the required timeframe. Candidates knowledgeable about relevant design codes and standards and with experience in traffic and traffic signal operations, modeling and fee programs are strongly preferred.

Under direction, performs professional complex office and field traffic engineering and transportation planning work; provides project coordination and lead direction to project teams or units of professional and technical staff to formulate, organize, and implement traffic engineering and planning related functions; and performs related duties as assigned.

Receives direction from an assigned Sr. Traffic Engineer.  Exercises no direct supervision over staff.  May provide technical and functional direction and training to lower-level staff.
 
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
 
Transportation Engineer: This is the fully qualified professional, unregistered level.  Under direction, incumbents perform the full scope of general transportation and traffic engineering duties, which include transportation planning, travel demand modeling, and forecasting the effects of proposed projects on traffic and transportation.  Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the traffic engineer level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods.  Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative.  Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
 
Traffic Engineer: This is the fully qualified professional, registered level.  Incumbents have the same duties and responsibilities as the Transportation Engineer, and are expected to advance to this level within one (1) year, upon receipt of a Traffic Engineer license issued by the State of California.
 
This class is distinguished from the Sr. Traffic Engineer in that the latter has responsibility for organizing, assigning, supervising, and reviewing the work of traffic staff. 
 
Positions in the Transportation Engineer/Traffic Engineer class series are flexibly staffed.  Movement from the Transportation Engineer level to the Traffic Engineer level is required and based solely upon receipt of the registered California Traffic Engineer license.  Failure to obtain registration as a Traffic Engineer prior to the end of the probation period of the Transportation Engineer classification will result in immediate separation.
