DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Mental Health Program Coordinator
is the first full supervisory level in the professional mental health series.

Mental Health Program Coordinator IA is the entry level professional program coordinator class providing direction for mental health programs and staff offering direct services to mental health clients. Services include case management, psychiatric emergency services, inpatient treatment, therapeutic and recreational day treatment, gero-psychology, outpatient child and adult mental health services, discharge planning and a variety of related support services. Initially under close supervision, incumbents are assigned more routine programmatic responsibilities, including staff supervision and service provision. Incumbent may advance to the higher-level after gaining experience and receiving the appropriate license.

Mental Health Program Coordinator IB is the licensed journey level class in this series, fully competent to independently perform the full range of program coordinator functions. Incumbents must exercise initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines. In addition to supervising assigned program staff, incumbents are expected to provide required intern supervision for those completing student internships within the County Mental Health Department.

Mental Health Program Coordinator II is the post-licensed journey level class in this series, providing licensed journey level direction for mental health programs, staff and services. In addition to supervising assigned program staff, incumbents are expected to provide required intern supervision for those completing both pre- and post-masters and doctoral level internships within the County Mental Health Department. This class is distinguished from Manager of Mental Health Programs in that the latter has overall management responsibility for comprehensive out- or in-patient mental health programs facilities and services.
