Air Quality Update for Friday, Oct. 13

Dear Laney Student –

The East Bay's air quality for today is predicted to be in the "Unhealthy" range, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), AirNow.gov. The quality of the air is a direct result of the wildfires burning in the North Bay.

PLEASE NOTE: DESPITE AIR QUALITY LEVELS, LANEY COLLEGE AND OTHER PERALTA COLLEGES ARE OPEN FOR CLASSES.

To protect yourself from poor air quality levels, we encourage you to do the following:

  • Reduce outdoor exertion; take breaks and plan outdoor activities in morning and not in the afternoon. Children and elderly are encouraged to avoid outdoor activities.

  • Be on the lookout for serious respiratory problems like coughing, wheezing possible for older adults, children and people with heart and/or lung disease.

  • Asthma sufferers keep quick-relief medicine handy.

Levels of sensitivity to air quality vary by person; please be vigilant and pay attention to your body.
