Official Courtesy Notification - Citywide Sewer Main Rehabilitation Project, P-906

The City of Culver City is rehabilitating some of its sewer mains (mostly in backyard easement areas) by installing cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) within the aging existing sewer mains. The new pipe is fully structural and is designed to last at least 50 years.

Since June 2013, the contractor has been cleaning and inspecting the existing sewer mains to get it ready for the liner installation. Starting September 23, 2013, the Contractor will begin install the CIPP in those areas that are ready.

The CIPP lining installation process:

  • Typical installation should be completed in a single day, using robotic methods to restore active house connections from within the pipe.
  • If there is a city sewer manhole located within the sewer easement in your backyard, the contractor will need to access it in order to clean the pipe and install the liner.
  • A 48-hour advance pre-lining notice will be sent to all impacted residents/businesses.
  • While the work is being performed, sewer service connection will be temporarily sealed off. It is requested that each resident or business should prevent water from entering through any drain between 8am and 5pm on the day specified in the 48-hour notice. This includes:

Do not wash clothes or dishes
Do not take showers or baths
    Do not flush toilets

The citywide sewer cleaning, inspection and CIPP lining project is ongoing until mid-2014. For large office buildings or apartments, the water supply may also be impacted. All residents/businesses in the project area will receive advance notices when the contractor is coming to an area near you.
