Fiesta La Ballona Returns Aug. 23-25, 2024

Culver City's summer festival returns on August 23rd through 25th at the Veterans Memorial Park. The annual event features live performances, carnival rides and games, a beer and wine garden, food trucks, and a vendor village showcasing local groups and artisan wares. Check out the full list of vendors on Fiesta La Ballona's website. There will also be a kid zone and sensory area this year.

Admission is FREE! Carnival Ride Wristbands are still available for pre-sale.

Learn About the Final City Review of the General Plan 2045 & Zoning Code Update

The Final General Plan, Zoning Code, and Program Environmental Impact Report (EIR) are now available for review! All documents are available to view on the project website. The General Plan is the City’s primary guide for land use and development decisions. The Zoning Code divides the City into zoning districts and regulates development standards and procedures to implement the General Plan. The EIR informs decision-makers and the public about potential environmental effects of a proposed project.

Final Hearing Dates:

August 14th: General Plan, Environmental Impact Report, and Zoning Code Ordinance at Planning Commission

August 26th: General Plan, Environmental Impact Report, and First Reading of the Zoning Code Ordinance at City Council

New Security Protocols at City Council Meetings

To ensure public safety during City Council meetings, all persons entering the Mike Balkman Council Chambers during a City Council meeting must pass through a security screening, including a metal detector and bag inspection. 

Firearms, knives, weapons (such as pepper spray, tasers, batons, etc.), and signs larger than 18 x 24 inches are prohibited from City Council Chambers and no one with any of these items will be permitted to enter. See California Penal Code §171b and City Council Policy 4008 for more information about restricted items.

Culver City Community Gathers for Olympic Closing Ceremony

Hundreds of people met at the Culver Steps as the City of Culver City welcomed the community to enjoy the Olympic closing ceremony together. On Sunday evening, people of all ages enjoyed the games, activities, and surrounding businesses as we said goodbye to Paris and hello to Los Angeles in 2028.

Culver City Fire Department Awarded International Reaccreditation Status

The Culver City Fire Department (CCFD) received Reaccredited Agency status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) for meeting the criteria established through the CFAI’s voluntary self-assessment and accreditation program.

CCFD is on an elite list with five agencies in California that have obtained accredited agency status from CFAI, as well as Class 1 status from the Insurance Services Office. For residents and businesses, CCFD’s status means lower prices on insurance, and assurance that CCFD is well-organized, properly equipped, staffed, and trained. Congratulations to the entire Culver City Fire Department!

Visual artist Joshua Callaghan has just completed a “refresh” of his existing series of wrapped utility boxes titled Almost Invisible Boxes throughout downtown plaza and surrounding area. Callaghan’s project, which was created in 2004 and has had updates over the years, is very popular and recognized internationally.

"It’s a real pleasure to be back here 20 years later and what has been created here is this very lively public space and it’s great to be a part of that,” Callaghan said. “I’ve come here over the years, and really examine the landscape and try to intervene in it. It’s remarkable how much it’s changed. It becomes almost philosophical on some level in that you try to do something in the City and the City is just a creature; it’s alive. It immediately assimilates when you do and changes it.” Watch the video to see the artwork.

Record Crowd Comes Together for National Night Out

The Culver City Police Department thanks the community for joining together at National Night Out on August 3rd. 

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. The CCPD Team worked hard to put on this event with the help of so many.
