Soft Story Seismic Retrofit Informational Meeting
The Soft Story Retrofit Program, adopted by the City Council in 2021, established a framework for the mandatory seismic retrofitting of existing wood framed buildings with soft, weak, or open front (SWOF) wall lines (Ordinance No. 2021-013, CCMC 15.02.500). This building type is known to have the potential for suffering serious damage, including collapse, in the event of a strong earthquake. A citywide visual building survey was conducted and existing multi-story, wood-framed buildings with soft, weak, or open front wall lines (SWOF) were identified.
A Notice to Comply was mailed out to Priority I and Priority II designated properties potentially affected by the Ordinance. Priority I and Priority II properties are defined as having a building containing 5 or more units.
The City of Culver City, Building Safety Division will host a community informational meeting to discuss the Soft Story Seismic Retrofit program.
