COVID-19 Counts in Culver City and LA County
1. Omicron Variant
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) has received confirmation of a third case of COVID-19 with mutations consistent with the new Omicron variant (B.1.1.529). The individual recently traveled from West Africa and is fully vaccinated. The individual had mild symptoms and is self-isolating. Known close contacts are fully vaccinated and have tested negative.
“This latest case of the Omicron variant in Los Angeles County underscores how critical safety measures are while traveling,” said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Director of Public Health. “These requirements include a negative test before boarding your flight, wearing a mask, and not traveling while you are sick. Residents should also consider delaying travel until their and all of their traveling companions are fully vaccinated.”
Getting vaccinated or boosted remains critical in preparation for the holiday season. Residents can walk-in to any Public Health vaccination site or make an appointment at the hundreds of additional sites across the county. For more information, visit Vaccinate LA County website.
2. New Requirements for International Travel to the United States
Beginning December 6, all air travelers, regardless of vaccination status, must show a negative COVID-19 viral test taken the day before they board their flight to the United States. For example, a passenger whose flight to the United States is at any time on a Sunday would need to have a negative test taken at any time on Saturday.
CDC continues to recommend that all travelers get a COVID-19 viral test 3-5 days after arrival, and that unvaccinated travelers should quarantine for 7 days after travel.
3. City Issues 39th Supplement to Public Order Related to Outdoor Temporary Use Permits
On December 7, 2021, the City of Culver City issued the 39th Supplement to Public Order. The order:

Extends the waiver of outdoor dining license fees and valet parking license fees to April 30, 2022.

Protect those not yet eligible for vaccination such as young children by getting yourself and other eligible people around them vaccinated.
Remember where COVID-19 spreads more easily:
Closed spaces with poor airflow.
Crowded places where there are many people from different households.
Close contact setting especially where people are talking, shouting, singing, or laughing close together.
Wear a face mask when gathering indoors, except when eating and drinking. Remember to bring a mask in case you need it. Wear a mask outside if the gathering is crowded with people who are unvaccinated, whose vaccine status you don’t know, or who are at increased risk of severe illness.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) encourages parents to protect their children and prevent transmission of COVID-19 by getting everyone in their family vaccinated who is eligible. Now that Los Angeles County vaccine providers are administering Pfizer vaccine to children 5 to 11 years old, anyone five years and older living or working in LA County can get vaccinated.
Similar to making a COVID-19 vaccine appointment for adults and teens, parents can make an appointment for their children by using California’s My Turn website or the Vaccinate LA County website Also on the Public Health website, is a list and a map that allows people to click to find a pediatric vaccination site near them.
After making an appointment for your child, below is a helpful checklist to review prior to their appointment.
Kids 5-17 must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or a responsible adult.
Parents and guardians should be prepared to sign a consent form on both visits.
Give children a light snack before the appointment and make sure they stay hydrated.
Do not stop their routine medicines before getting vaccinated, unless their doctor recommends it.
Parents and guardians can get vaccinated at the same site too!
