Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Department Update
“The Plunge” operated by the City of Culver City’s Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department was opened on August 31, 1949. Our mission is to provide comprehensive aquatics programming that meets the needs of the community through highly accessible, enjoyable and varied opportunities for learning and recreation. We strive to offer a safe, responsive and welcoming environment that promotes the health and well-being of our City’s residents.
As new COVID-19 cases remain at alarming levels and the number of people hospitalized continue to increase, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued a new temporary order effective November 30, 2020. The City of Culver City has issued a Public Order that mirrors the latest County Order. Under the current Order the Los Angeles County Public Health Department orders the following for Public Pools: “Pools that serve more than one household may open only for regulated lap swimming with one person per lane.” To remain compliant with the new order the Plunge will be open for Lap Swim Only.
Swim into Spring
Lap Swim: For Swimmers age 12 and up. Swimmers must pre-register for 50-minute blocks of time. Upon arrival Swimmers must line up outside the plunge on the marked spaces wear their masks and maintain social distancing of six (6) feet at all times. A COVID-19 screening will take place prior to entry. Swimmers are strongly encouraged to come dressed and ready for their swim- Lockers, locker rooms and indoor showers will be closed; however, restrooms and sinks will be available as well as newly installed outdoor showers. Only one swimmer permitted per lane. Swimmers must stay in the center of their lane at all times.
Plunge into Spring Lessons
Group Swim Lessons: Classes will meet two days a week for 50 minutes each day on either a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. All of our students that are Level 3 or lower will require a parent/guardian over the age of 18 to be in the water with them.
Private Swim Lessons: Classes will meet either 2 days a week for 3 weeks (Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays. All of our students that are Level 3 or lower will require a parent/guardian over the age of 18 to be in the water with them. Parents/Guardian.
