Today the City of Culver City issued a new Public Order that permits additional sectors including personal care establishments and bars to reopen as of June 19. The City order mirrors the Los Angeles Department of Public Health (Public Health) Order issued yesterday. Businesses must implement strict Public Health sector specific protocols for infection control and distancing before reopening.
What’s Opening?
Personal Care Establishments (i.e. nail salons, tanning salons, esthetician, skin care, and cosmetology services; electrology, body art professionals, tattoo parlors, and piercing shops; and massage therapy (in non-healthcare settings)
Bars, Winery and Brewery Tasting Rooms
What’s Still Closed?
Lounges and nightclubs
Public entertainment venues such as movie theaters, live performance theaters, concert venues, theme parks and festivals
Family entertainment centers such as bowling alleys, arcades, miniature golf, and batting cages
Indoor and outdoor playgrounds for children, except those located within a school or childcare center
Hot tubs, steam rooms, and saunas not located on a residential property
All events and gatherings, except specifically permitted by the new order or previous orders
Going to the salon, visiting a bar or spa will be very different from before the pandemic. Each sector reopening must implement strict Public Health infection control procedures prior to opening. The specific procedures along with more information are available at the Public Health website.
Faith-Based Services, Protests, and Pools
The new Order also clarifies different requirements for indoor and outdoor faith-based services, indoor and outdoor protests, and swimming pools. The Municipal Plunge remains closed for now, as the City plans for implementation of health protocols at the pool. Capacity will be extremely limited when The Plunge reopens. For more information, please see the full text of the Order.
Cloth Face Coverings Required
The City’s new Order reiterates that all persons must wear a clean, cloth face covering over both their nose and mouth whenever they leave their place of residence and are or can be in contact with or walking near or past others who are non-household members in both public and private places, whether indoors or outdoors. This includes wearing a cloth face covering when patronizing a business.
Celebrate Father’s Day and the 4th of July Independence Day Holiday Safely at Home
We encourage you to celebrate the upcoming Father's Day and Independence Day holidays safely at home. Gathering with family or friends who do not live in the same household as you remains prohibited by County and City orders. We look forward to a time when we can resume gathering together for holidays, but this year, try out some new traditions that you can do at home: BBQ for the people you live with, watch the PBS Independence Day Special (or screen Independence Day), or simply enjoy being outdoors in one of our parks. Check-out the City’s Virtual Recreation Center for more ideas. As a reminder, fireworks are prohibited in Culver City.
COVID-19 Remains a Threat
Public Health continues to monitor the spread of COVID-19 and the capacity of the healthcare system to provide residents with essential services. Los Angeles County continues to be in Phase 3 of the State’s Resilience Roadmap. However, this major step forward does not mean the threat of COVID-19 is gone. If at any time, the County’s rate of infection and other key metrics demonstrate a rapid acceleration of new cases that threatens to overwhelm the healthcare system, Public Health and the City may need to limit future re-openings or close reopened sectors.
