City Council to Consider Bike Share Feasibility Study on Monday, June 26th

Culver City Bike Share Demo Bike

Recommended system would serve all of Culver City and nearby communities in Los Angeles

Next week, the City Council will consider the Bike Share Feasibility Study and a recommendation from the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) to bring bike share to Culver City in 2018.

Released in March, the report recommends partnering with Metro and the City of Los Angeles to implement a smart bike system throughout Culver City and the nearby Los Angeles neighborhoods of Palms, Mar Vista, Del Rey, and Playa Vista. The recommended 620-bike system would serve 140,000 residents and 100,000 employees in a 12.2-square-mile service area spanning from Lincoln Boulevard to La Cienega Boulevard.

The City Council will review the Feasibility Study and BPAC recommendation and consider potential next steps for bike share at their regular meeting on Monday, June 26th, at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers. The public is invited to provide comments on the project at this meeting.

The meeting agenda, staff report, and attachments will be available later this week on the City's website.

Expo-Downtown Connector DemonstrationUpdate on Expo-Downtown Bicycle Connector

At their last meeting, the City Council received a presentation on the Expo to Downtown Bicycle Connector project, which would construct a two-way protected bike lane on Washington Boulevard between the Expo Station and Downtown Culver City. Much of the discussion revolved around the Connector's relation to the TOD Visioning Study, which is a parallel planning effort that also includes the Washington Boulevard corridor.

With so many ideas about Washington Boulevard's future emerging from the TOD Visioning Study process, the Council decided to wait to hear that study's final recommendations before proceeding with the Expo to Downtown Bicycle Connector. In the interim, the Council directed staff to preserve any right-of-way needed for the Connector from potential private developments on Washington.

The City Council is expected to consider both the TOD Visioning Study and the Connector project later this summer.
