Cerritos Library is a popular learning destination for the entire community. To best serve patrons’ needs, advance registration is required for some Cerritos Library programs. Please see the information below to learn how and when to register for the programs which require registration. For more information, please call Cerritos Library at (562) 916-1388.

How to Register
In order to register, patrons must be in the City’s class registration database and have obtained a family account access PIN number and individual family member personal numbers.

On-line registration
To check the availability of classes or to register for classes, please visit the Cerritos home page at cerritos.us and look for the on-line registration link. The program, eConnect, is best viewed with Internet Explorer. Before registering for classes on-line, print the eConnect User’s Guide for step-by-step instructions.

Only Visa and MasterCard will be accepted as payment. For additional information and/or to obtain the PIN numbers, please call the Library Reservation Desk at (562) 916-1388. Computers at the Cerritos Library may be used to access eConnect.

Cerritos Library's 30-45 minute Storytimes incorporate stories, audience participation and a book-related DVD, and will be held in the Little Theater.

HOMEWORK TIME
Do your children need help with their homework? Cerritos Library offers Homework Time, an afterschool homework help program for Cerritos resident students in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6. The Library is offering two sessions in the Art Studio of the Children's Library. Space is limited to 12 students. Session fee is $25. Students should bring their homework and a book to read or their library card to check out reading material to each class meeting. A parent or a designated individual is required to sign students in and out of class.

TRIVIA FOR KIDS
Children will get a chance to compete in an educational trivia game and test their math, listening and word skills. Space is limited to 20 participants.

CREATIVE WRITING FOR KIDS
In this creative writing workshop, children will learn about various aspects of writing, including character, plot and setting. This event is limited to 27 registrants.

S.A.T. PRACTICE TEST
In collaboration with Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions, the Cerritos Library will offer a free full- length S.A.T. practice test for students in grades 9-11. Space is limited to 50 students. Test takers are encouraged to eat a hearty breakfast and arrive by 8:45 a.m. to sign in. Please bring a calculator, two No. 2 pencils and snacks to eat during very short breaks.

SCORE GIVEBACK/ S.A.T. TEST STRATEGIES
On Monday, September 23 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in Skyline Room A, all test takers will receive a detailed score report showing their strengths and weaknesses. DAVE BOATMAN'S CARTOON CLASS
Cartoonist Dave Boatman will teach how cartoons are used in our society. He will present warm-up and imagination exercises, provide drawing tips and demonstrate how to draw cartoon facial expressions. This class will inspire and motivate students in their love of cartoons and drawing and is limited to 50 participants.

BEGINNING ORIGAMI FOR KIDS
Volunteen Alexa Marie Flores will teach basic origami folding for children and demonstrate how to fold an owl during this hour-long class.

MS EXCEL 2007 WORKSHOP
In this free three-hour Microsoft Excel 2007 class, instructor Jason Galeener will provide tips and tricks for formatting spreadsheets, sorting and filtering lists, creating professional-looking graphs and printing. The class is limited to 27 students with basic Excel experience.

YOUNG REMBRANDTS
Children learn the finer points of art in this series of workshops presented by Young Rembrandts. Students will use markers to create a picture in the style of Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher. Seating is limited to 20. The fee is $5. No refunds will be given.

COLLEGE BRAG SHEET: A PERFECT PICTURE OF YOU
Learn how to highlight your activities, accomplishments and awards for maximum impact on your college application. This workshop is limited to 15 participants and will be presented by College Admission Consultant and University of California Certified Application Evaluator Bryan West.

Teens will be introduced to a variety of research tools, including print and electronic resources that are useful for completing research projects and papers. This workshop is limited to 15 participants.

BASIC FINANCES FOR TEENS
Teens are invited to discover the fundamentals of financial management. This one-hour overview presented by Heartland Institute of Financial Education will present information on basic financial concepts, how money works, budgeting and managing debt. The course is open to 15 participants.

FINDING THE RIGHT COLLEGE FOR YOU
Based on your grades, test scores, potential majors and other factors, find the college that is right for you. Learn how to create a working list of schools based on difficulty of admission ranging from easier to more difficult. This workshop is limited to 15 participants and will be presented by College Admission Consultant and University of California Certified Application Evaluator Bryan West.

CHILDREN'S ART & SHORT STORY CONTESTS
Friends of the Cerritos Library will conduct the Eleventh Annual Art Contest for Children in grades K-6 and a Short Story Contest for children in grades 3-6. "Colors of the Rainforest" is the theme for the Art Contest and "My Best Friend" is the theme for the Short Story Contest. The deadline to turn in all entries is Friday, October 25 before 9 p.m. Create a picture using your imagination to depict a rainforest scene with paints, crayons or any other media. Artwork must be no larger than 12"x18" and unmounted. Only one art entry is allowed per child. Short stories about a best friend must be original, using no more than 500 words, and preferably typed on white letter-size paper. Only one short story entry is allowed per child. Fliers and application forms will be available at the Children's Help Desk and on the Library's website. ARTS & CRAFTS FOR KIDS

Library Displays

ART BY MARK
Colorful digital art pieces by Mark Leeds will be on display through the end of September in the Local History Museum. Cerritos resident Leeds has participated in several art shows in California and other states and has won many awards for his creativity.

THE ARTFUL JOURNEY
Several paintings by members of the Village Art Group of Cypress will be on display in the Library's lobby through the end of September. Under the direction of instructor Pamela Clauss, the pieces painted from real life, photographs and pictures were created using watercolors and acrylics. Participating artists include Clauss, Irene Hart, Susan Rapske, Priscilla Daegneaut, Margie Conway, Marilyn Oropeza, Paul Woods, Pam Basich, Doris VanZutphen, Norma Echt, Chloris Poggiogalle, Mary Lee Milner, Carol Redhead, Marilyn Reyes, Ann Stoffers, Marlene Ackerman and Linda Leydekkers.

ARTISTS' BOOKS
As part of the ongoing exhibits planned to showcase the unique pieces from the Library's special collection of artists' books, a variety of these books will be displayed throughout the Library until the end of September. This exhibit will include portfolio, pop-up, scroll and tunnel books, and several special books that use metal, glass and other unusual materials.

COMIC BOOKS & ACTION FIGURES DISPLAY
A variety of Batman comic books and action figures will be displayed in the Young Adult area through the end of September. These specialty items are from the collection of Allen Montgomery.

TIFFANY-INSPIRED GEMSTONE LAMPS EXHIBITION
The Secret Garden (TSG 1895 USA™) will exhibit museum-quality Tiffany-style lamps and a wall hanging created from polished gemstones through the end of September at the end of Main Street. These one-of-a-kind items created under the leadership of master artist Elaine Guo celebrate the work of American artist and designer Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933).
