Cerritos Library is a popular learning destination for the entire community. To best serve patrons’ needs, advance registration is required for some Cerritos Library programs. Please see the information below to learn how and when to register for the programs which require registration. For more information, please call Cerritos Library at (562) 916-1388.

How to Register
In order to register, patrons must be in the City’s class registration database and have obtained a family account access PIN number and individual family member personal numbers.

On-line registration
To check the availability of classes or to register for classes, please visit the Cerritos home page at cerritos.us and look for the on-line registration link. The program, eConnect, is best viewed with Internet Explorer. Before registering for classes on-line, print the eConnect User’s Guide for step-by-step instructions.

Only Visa and MasterCard will be accepted as payment. For additional information and/or to obtain the PIN numbers, please call the Library Reservation Desk at (562) 916-1388. Computers at the Cerritos Library may be used to access eConnect.

Cerritos Library's 30-45 minute Storytimes incorporate stories, audience participation and a book-related DVD, and will be held in the Little Theater.

MS POWERPOINT 2007 TIPS & TRICKS
Go beyond the basic capabilities of PowerPoint in this three-hour hands-on workshop. Instructor Jason Galeener will provide tips on how to create more interesting and effective presentations using PowerPoint 2007. This class is limited to 27 participants and is designed for beginning to intermediate students with some PowerPoint experience.

BEGINNING ORIGAMI FOR KIDS
Volunteen Alexa Marie Flores will teach basic origami folding techniques and show children how to make a Pikachu in this hour-long class. For more information, call (562) 916-1343.

DAVE BOATMAN'S SPORTS DRAWING CLASS
This class will provide an educational, creative and interactive hour of sports cartoon instruction. Dave Boatman will teach how cartoons are used in our society; present warm-up and imagination exercises; provide drawing tips; and demonstrate how to draw the various cartoon facial expressions. This class is meant to inspire and motivate students with a love of cartoons and drawing. The class is limited to 50 participants.

CREATIVE WRITING FOR KIDS
In this creative writing workshop, children will learn about various aspects of writing, including character, plot and setting. This event is limited to 27 registrants.

ART WORKSHOP FOR CHILDREN
Local artist Nirali Thakkar will assist children in creating a picture of "My Wonderful Mom." Detailed instructions on creating a portrait will be included at the beginning of the workshop. Although paper and some art materials will be provided, participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies, photographs and any mementos they wish to include in their artwork. All finished pieces will be displayed at the Library in June and July. The workshop is limited to 20 participants. The fee is $5 per participant. No refunds will be given.

BALLOON WORKSHOP
Ever wonder how balloon twisters make all that crazy stuff? Join Balloon Storyteller Annie Banannie for a fun balloon-twisting workshop and learn how to create dogs, giraffes, cats and snakes! Just bring yourself, your imagination and your sense of adventure. Children in grades 3 and under should bring a parent with them to assist with lessons. The workshop is limited to 40 participants. The fee is $5 per child. No refunds will be given.

YOUNG REMBRANDTS
Children can learn the finer points of art in this series of workshops presented by Young Rembrandts. Students will use markers to create a picture in the style of German-born American illustrator and graphic artist Peter Max. Seating is limited to 20. The fee is $5 per participant. No refunds will be given.

A CLASSICAL VIOLIN/PIANO RECITAL
Violinist Dr. Kangwon Kim and pianist Dr. Li-shan Hung will perform some of Franz Schubert's works for violin and piano on Thursday, May 2. Dr. Kim was an assistant professor of violin and chamber music at Biola University in La Mirada. She will be accompanied on the piano by Dr. Hung, who serves as an associate professor and is the Keyboard Area Coordinator at Biola University. For more information, call (562) 916-1342.

NATIONAL FREE COMIC BOOK DAY
Saturday, May 4 is Free Comic Book Day, which is celebrated throughout the United States. Comic books are an original American art form, created in the early days of the 20th century. They feature a wide range of diverse storylines that capture the imagination of readers and have survived the rise and dominance of radio, television, motion pictures, video games and the Internet. Comic books will be given away to children and teens at the Children's Help Desk throughout the day while supplies last. There is a limit of one book per person. FAMILY NIGHT/PERFORMING MACAWS
Come enjoy "Tricks without Treats" featuring Steve Reverditto and his macaws, which have performed throughout Southern California. These macaws free-fly, play dead, lie on their backs and perform other tricks, all without rewards or treats! Join us for this hour-long program and see the birds in action. FRIDAY EVENING MOVIE
On Friday, May 17, the film "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" (2012) will be screened in the Skyline Room. Based on J.R.R. Tolkien's adventure, the film follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. BOOK ARTS RECEPTION
In conjunction with the display of artists' books in the lobby, members of San Diego Book Arts will host a reception on Sunday, May 19. MEET THE AUTHOR PREM SOURI KISHORE
On Monday, May 20, author Prem Souri Kishore will discuss her book "India: A Culinary Journey." The book jacket reads: "Generously spiced with the author's memories and personal stories from an Indian childhood brimming with delicious adventures, this book brings the flavors of India alive." With more than 100 easy-to-follow recipes adapted for the American kitchen, this book includes a guide to festivals and customs, and a glossary on the various spices used. BLOOD DRIVE
Due to a critically low local blood supply and severe shortages of blood collections across the nation, the City of Cerritos and the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive in the parking lot of the Cerritos Library. All blood drive participants will receive two VIP tickets to the Laugh Factory, two tickets for the LA Galaxy and discounted tickets to the "Sesame Street Live" show at the Nokia Theatre. Any healthy person age 17 or older and weighing at least 110 pounds may be eligible to donate blood. Library Displays

BOOKS SIGNED BY VISITING AUTHORS
Cerritos Library has had the privilege of hosting several best-selling authors. A display of books signed by visiting authors such as Ray Bradbury, Meg Cabot, Stephen Cannell, Marcia Clark, Earlene Fowler, Cornelia Funke, Sue Grafton, Denise Hamilton, Faye Kellerman, Dean Koontz, John Lescroart, Lisa See, Gary Soto and many others will be on display in the Local History Museum and the Young Adult area of the Library until the end of May.

SAN DIEGO BOOK ARTS EXHIBITION
Artists' books created by members of the San Diego Book Arts will be exhibited in the Library's lobby area through the end of May. This display will highlight each member's unique approach to the book as art.
