S.A.T. PRACTICE TEST
In collaboration with Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions, a free full-length SAT practice test will be held for students in grades 9-11 on Saturday, March 3. Space is limited to 50 students. Test takers are encouraged to eat a hearty breakfast and arrive by 8:45 a.m. to sign in. Please bring a calculator, two No. 2 pencils, and snacks to eat during the short breaks.

Score report and SAT test-taking strategies

HOMEWORK TIME
Do your children need help with their homework? Cerritos Library offers Homework Time, an after-school homework help program for Cerritos resident students in grades 3 through 6. Space is limited. The course fee is $25. Parents must make sure that students bring to each class meeting their homework and either a book to read or their library card to check out reading material. A parent or a designated individual is required to sign students in and out of each class meeting. Classes will not be held during the week of Spring Break (April 9 to 13.)

NEW ZEALAND KORU ART
As part of the Library’s Cultural Art Workshop Series, children are invited to participate in a Maori Koru design workshop. Koru is the Maori word for the new unfurling fern frond. This pattern is used in many Maori and New Zealand art forms and symbolizes new life, regeneration, growth, strength and peace. Children will create their own Koru design while learning about this traditional New Zealand art form. Seating is limited to 20.

CERAMIC PAINTING WORKSHOP FOR ADULTS
This workshop presented by Color Me Mine offers a wonderful opportunity for adults to learn ceramic painting. Participants will decorate a bowl using non-toxic, lead free paints. Seating is limited to 20. The fee per person is $5. No refunds will be given.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH MOBILE PROGRAM
In celebration of Red Cross Month in March, a Community Outreach Mobile Program will be presented by the Rancho Region, Greater Long Beach Chapter of the American Red Cross on Saturday, March 3 outside the Library. The program focuses on disaster preparedness and will also include free blood pressure testing. A youth Disaster Readiness puppet show by local high school students will be presented in the Little Theater at various times throughout the event. The Cerritos Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will also have a display with information on how you can become a part of the CERT program. A Community Disaster Education leader will offer a PowerPoint presentation about Disaster and Earthquake preparedness in the Hi-Tech Lab at various times throughout the event. MEET PROMINENT AFRICAN AMERICAN AUTHORS
The Links, Incorporated Orange County Chapter is partnering with the National Black MBA Association Los Angeles Chapter and the Cerritos Library to offer a special opportunity to meet several prominent African American authors, including Gina Carroll, Rashad Harrison, Whitney LeBlanc, Darryl Littleton, Hexin E. BLOOD DRIVE
Due to a critically low local blood supply and severe shortages of blood collections across the nation, the City of Cerritos and The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive on Tuesday, March 13 in the parking lot of the Cerritos Library. Any healthy person age 17 or older and weighing at least 110 pounds may be eligible to donate blood. All blood drive participants will be entered into a drawing for two annual passes to Disneyland and California Adventure. Donors will also receive a voucher redeemable for two tickets to a Los Angeles Galaxy soccer game (there is a $7.50 processing fee per ticket and tickets are subject to availability and will be redeemed on a first come, first served basis). FRIDAY EVENING MOVIE
The film “Real Steel” (2011) will be screened on Friday, March 16. In the film, Charlie Kenton is a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2,000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max to build and train a championship contender. Library Displays
BOOKS SIGNED BY VISITING AUTHORS
Cerritos Library has had the privilege of hosting several best-selling authors. A display of books signed by visiting authors such as Ray Bradbury, Meg Cabot, Stephen Cannell, Earlene Fowler, Cornelia Funke, Sue Grafton, Denise Hamilton, Faye Kellerman, Dean Koontz, John Lescroart, Lisa See, Gary Soto and many others will be on display in the Local History Museum, the Young Adult area and the Library’s lobby until the end of April.
GATES: A COLLECTION OF QUILTS
A collection of 23 quilts from Quilts on the Wall artists explore the idea of a gate’s use, each in the artist’s own particular idiom of fiber art and personal viewpoint. Embellishments, computer modifications, inks, acrylics, beads, pearls, fusing, cottons, silks, wools, roving, organza, canvas, felt, tulle, metallic threads and paints, discharged and rusted fabrics, screen printing, stencils, stamps, hand and machine piecing and quilting are all represented in this very eclectic display of quilts. These quilts may be enjoyed near the Craftsman area of the Library through April.
