COVID-19 updates from the City of Cerritos - January 14, 2022

The City has approved Temporary Use Permits for new COVID-19 testing sites in Cerritos. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will offer a site at Liberty Park II that offers free antigen and PCR tests. The testing site opens today, and operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Logisticom/PPE Unite will open a testing site at the Los Cerritos Center in the parking lot area adjacent to the former Sears Store and Sears Tire Center. The site is expected to open on Monday, January 17 and is approved to operate daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Free antigen and PCR tests will be available. A & C Urgent Care will open a testing site at Cerritos Park East, in the parking lot area adjacent to the picnic shelter. The site is expected to open on Tuesday, January 18. The hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and weekends from 7 a.m. to noon. The location will offer free antigen testing and PCR testing for a fee. The locations will offer drop-in service as well as appointments. 

Anyone age 5 and older living or working in L.A. County can get vaccinated against COVID-19. Vaccinations are always free and open to eligible residents and workers regardless of immigration status. As of January 6, L.A. County reported the following COVID-19 vaccination rates for Cerritos residents: 52.4 percent of children ages 5 to 11; 84.6 percent of everyone ages 12 and older; and 91.1 percent of people age 65 and older.

Beginning Saturday, January 15, individuals covered by a health insurance plan who purchase an FDA-approved, over-the-counter COVID-19 diagnostic test will be able to have those tests covered by their insurance. The federal government is purchasing 1 billion at-home, rapid tests to distribute for free to Americans who want them. Details about how to request those tests, including a government-run test website, are scheduled to be released today. 

L.A. County is currently reporting a total of 6,131 cases of COVID-19 and 64 deaths due to COVID-19 in Cerritos. There are 113 reported cases of COVID-19 and one death from the disease in the unincorporated area of Cerritos. This represents an increase of 911 cases and zero deaths from COVID-19 in Cerritos since last week’s COVID-19 email blast update. (As of January 7, L.A. County had reported a total of 5,220 cases of COVID-19 in Cerritos and 64 deaths in the City from COVID-19.)
