In his acclaimed What Makes It Great? series, Rob Kapilow celebrates The Music of Stephen Sondheim with insight into the Oscar-Tony-Grammy-winning composer’s works. One of the most revered figures in American musical theater, Sondheim is the mastermind behind the iconic scores A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, and West Side Story. With soprano Sally Wilfert and tenor Michael Winther, Kapilow unravels the beauty of Sondheim’s music, helping listeners appreciate the compositions in new ways. A Q&A concludes the evening.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer calls award-winning Croatian pianist Martina Filjak “a musician of unusual sophistication, discipline and personality.” Her recital features Amadeus Wolfgang Mozart – Piano Sonata No. 13 in B-flat Major, K. 333; Johannes Brahms – Ballade No. 1 in d minor, Op. 10 and Ballade No. 3 in b minor, Op. 10; Franz Liszt – Ballade No. 2 in b minor; Sergei Prokofiev – Sonata No. 4 in c minor, Op. 29 from Old Notebooks; Alexander Scriabin – Prelude and Nocturne for the Left Hand, Op. 9; and Mily Balakirev – Islamey, Oriental Fantasy.

A CHORUS LINE

In the Tony-winning musical A Chorus Line, aspiring dancers are subjected to a grueling audition that forces them to candidly discuss their childhood, dreams, and personal struggles. The 17 dancers bare their emotional, funny, and heartbreaking stories onstage, and in the end eight are chosen for the chorus line. This show contains strong language and adult themes and is recommended for mature audiences only.
