Starting January 1, 2018, there will be significant changes for passengers who purchase blue, magnetic-strip BART tickets on board the Capitol Corridor train.
- All BART fares will increase by 2.7%, plus there will be an additional 50-cent surcharge on BART rides paid for with a blue ticket. This is to encourage BART passengers to move to the San Francisco Bay Area's reusable and re-loadable Clipper card to pay fares.
- The Capitol Corridor will discontinue selling BART's blue tickets in the Cafe Car. Instead, we will sell Clipper cards pre-loaded with $11 of cash value.
- With these pre-loaded Clipper cards, we will be unable to continue offering passengers a BART discount; however, we will be waiving the $3 one-time fee normally charged for new Clipper cards. A Clipper card pre-loaded with $11 of value will cost $11 on board the Capitol Corridor, for a one-time savings of $3.
