Benicia PD Arrests Suspect in Felony Assault Case
The City of Benicia, California sent this bulletin at 02/08/2012 05:00 PM PST
On February 7, 2012, Tuesday night, at approximately 10:38 PM the Benicia Public Safety Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a subject inside the Bottom of the Fifth Bar. The caller reported a subject in the bar had stabbed a few people with a knife. The caller said the knife had been taken away from the subject. The first officer arrived less than 30 seconds after receiving the call.
The suspect, Raul Lago, was detained inside the bar by the first arriving officers without incident. Officers located three male victims at the scene who were cut or slashed by the suspect. Two of the victims reside in Benicia and the third victim resides in Vallejo. One victim, a 25-year-old Benicia resident, sustained a cut to the chin. He was treated at the scene by Benicia Fire Department Paramedics and released. The second victim, a 21-year-old Benicia resident, sustained a laceration to the top of his hand. He was also treated at the scene by paramedics and released. The third victim, a 48-year-old Vallejo resident, sustained a slash type injury to the inside portion of his hand across the fingers. He was treated at the scene by paramedics then transported via ambulance to a local hospital.
The preliminary investigation determined words were exchanged earlier in the evening between Lago and one of the victims. Two of the victims began to leave and an altercation occurred between Lago and one of the victims. This victim sustained a cut to the chin. The second victim became involved in the altercation and sustained a cut to the hand. The third victim, who was acting as a peacemaker, sustained the slash across the inside portion of this hand cutting his fingers.
Lago was treated at the scene by paramedics and treated and released from a local hospital for injuries sustained during the altercation. Lago was booked into the Solano County Jail in Fairfield on three counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
