Electric Vehicles News UpdateTOU EV Rate Discussion

At its regular meeting on July 15, the Public Utilities Board will consider an AMP consultant’s report on time-of-use rates that could encourage electric vehicle (EV) charging.

TIME-OF-USE RATES

Time-of-use rates price electricity to reflect changes in a utility's costs of producing power throughout the day.

The discussion on time-of-use rates for EV customers is part of an overall initiative to make driving EVs a more viable choice for Alamedans and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In May, AMP staff presented a plan for new EV customer programs to the board.

DIFFERENT PLANS ARE BEING CONSIDERED

The consultant’s report on time-of-use rates will include an analysis of different rate structures. AMP will consider the consultant’s information and recommendations, and come back to the board at a future date with proposed rates.

DISCUSSION MOVED FROM JUNE TO JULY

AMP had anticipated presenting the report on time-of-use rates for EV customers in June, but it was moved to the July 15 meeting, which will be held at City Hall.
