Bring your family, friends and neighbors to help clean up our creeks and Wetlands Edge Park during Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Together, we can help keep our parks and open spaces enjoyable for everyone while protecting natural habitats and practicing environmental stewardship.
If you've heard about Measure P, you may have questions about the city's financial outlook. I encourage residents to attend our Finance Committee meeting on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 1 p.m. in the American Canyon City Hall Council Chambers. The committee will review the General Fund projection and our overall financial outlook. The discussion will focus on, how we use existing funding to maintain services our community relies on every day. Not able to attend in person? That’s OK! Watch the meeting live on YouTube or Zoom. As we celebrate Labor Day, we recognize the hard work and contributions of workers who help make our communities stronger. City offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of the holiday and will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 8. While our offices are closed, our Virtual City Hall is always open. Visit our website to access City information and services. I hope everyone enjoys a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend.

Our young people are the future of American Canyon, and we want them involved in shaping the community they will one day lead. Each year, the City invites American Canyon High School seniors to serve as Youth Commissioners, giving students an opportunity to participate directly in local government. Recruitment is now underway for Youth Commissioners to serve on the Parks and Community Services Commission; Open Space, Active Transportation and Sustainability Commission; and the Planning Commission.
Our Commissions play an important role in City government. They consider issues that affect our community, and having our youth at the table adds an important perspective to those conversations. Young people experience our community differently, and their ideas and input help us consider how the decisions we make today will impact the next generation. Serving as a Youth Commissioner also gives students a firsthand look at how local government works and how decisions are made.
If you are an American Canyon High School senior, I encourage you to consider applying. And if you know a senior who would bring a thoughtful voice to the table, encourage them to get involved. No experience in local government is needed, just an interest in our community and a willingness to participate and share your perspective.

Holiday Observance Closure
Our offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7 in honor of Labor Day.

Paving Improvements Coming to Eucalyptus Drive
Paving work is scheduled on Eucalyptus Drive from Monday, Aug. 31 through Thursday, Sept. 3, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Temporary road closures and detours will be in place while crews complete the work.
Drivers will be redirected along nearby streets, including Donaldson Way, Gisela Drive, Rio Del Mar, Los Altos and Theresa Drive.

Citizens Academy
Citizens Academy kicks off Wednesday, Sept. 16! This free, nine-week program gives residents an inside look at how City government works. Participants will meet City staff, explore departments such as public safety, parks and recreation, finance, public works and planning, and learn how City services and decisions shape everyday life in American Canyon.
The Academy runs Sept.16 through Nov. 7, with Wednesday evening sessions and two Saturday hands-on activities, including a Water Reclamation Facility tour and a capstone community service project. Register through our online registration portal.

Measure P
From keeping neighborhoods safe to maintaining clean and enjoyable parks and public spaces, if approved, Measure P will support general City services that residents rely on every day.
While the City's budget is balanced this year, expenses are projected to outpace revenues beginning in Fiscal Year 2027/28, with a projected $400,000 General Fund shortfall. Over the next five years, that shortfall is projected to total $4.1 million if current services and staffing levels are maintained.
To address rising costs and support long-term community priorities, the American Canyon City Council voted to put Measure P, a 1% (or 1-cent) local sales tax measure, on the November 3 ballot.
If passed by voters, Measure P is projected to generate about $3.7 million annually with the revenue going directly into the General Fund to help maintain general city services like public safety, fire mitigation and parks and recreation programs.

 Community Meetings
The City of American Canyon will host two community meetings to provide residents with an opportunity to learn more about Measure P. Attendees can hear information about the measure, ask questions, and connect directly with City staff. These meetings are intended to provide clear, factual information about Measure P and help answer questions from the community.
