Students returned to the classroom on Wednesday, and I hope everyone is off to a great start. Wishing our students a rewarding year of learning, new experiences, friendships, and plenty of opportunities to grow. To our teachers, administrators, and school staff, thank you for all you do. We wish you a wonderful school year.
With school back in session, our streets and school zones are busy again. Please slow down, stay alert, and watch for students and families walking and biking, especially during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. A little extra patience and attention from all of us helps keep American Canyon safe.
Our youth aren’t the only ones heading back to the classroom! Registration is now open for the 2026 Citizens Academy, beginning Wednesday, September 16. This nine-week program offers a behind-the-scenes look at how your City works. Connect with City leaders and staff while exploring public safety, parks and recreation, public works, planning, finance, and the many services and programs that keep American Canyon running every day. The Academy also includes a facility tour and capstone volunteer project. Whether you’ve called American Canyon home for many years or are newer to the community, this is a great opportunity to learn more about your City and the people and services that serve you every day. We hope you’ll join us!

How are we doing, American Canyon?
It’s a simple question, but the answers can tell us a great deal about our community. This week, the City of American Canyon launched The National Community Survey (NCS), an effort to hear directly from you about the services we provide and what matters most to you. The survey will continue through October, and American Canyon residents will be randomly selected to participate in English, Spanish, or Tagalog.
The NCS is a scientifically designed survey used by communities across the country to understand how residents feel about City services like public safety, parks and recreation, infrastructure, and other aspects of their community. It also allows us to compare our results with communities nationwide and better understand where we are doing well and where we can improve. Most importantly, the survey gives you an opportunity to tell us what you really think. Your responses are confidential, and the City does not know who participates or how individual residents respond. We want your honest feedback - good or bad.
What we learn will help guide decisions about City services, budgets, and the future of American Canyon. If you are selected, please take a few minutes to complete the survey. Your feedback matters and will help us make decisions that reflect the needs and priorities of our community.

Cash For Grass
Looking to refresh your landscape while using less water? The City of American Canyon’s Cash for Grass Program offers eligible residents a rebate for replacing water-intensive turf with water-wise landscaping.
Making the switch can help conserve water, reduce outdoor maintenance, and create a more sustainable landscape. The program also provides resources to help residents plan their projects and understand program requirements.

Proactive Maintenance Helps Protect Our Community.
City crews will continue removing vegetation from creeks and open space water outlets to improve water flow, reduce the risk of localized flooding, and help keep local waterways clear.
Residents may see crews working in different areas of American Canyon through early September.

Sales Tax: Measure P
Measure P is a proposed 1-cent local sales tax measure that will appear on the November 3, 2026 ballot. If approved by voters, the measure would provide additional locally controlled funding to support essential City services and community priorities.
The measure would help provide the City with additional resources to address ongoing needs, maintain services, and support the community. Residents can learn more about Measure P, including frequently asked questions, and other resources, by visiting the City’s Measure P webpage.

Parks & Recreation Social Media Update
American Canyon Parks & Recreation is moving to a new social media home! To make it easier for residents to stay connected with the City, the American Canyon Parks & Recreation Facebook and Instagram pages will be deactivated on October 1.
Parks & Recreation updates will continue to be shared through the City of American Canyon – Government Facebook and Instagram pages. Residents can follow the City’s main social media accounts to stay informed about Parks & Recreation programs, events, activities, registration information, facility updates and other important announcements.

National Community Survey
The City of American Canyon’s National Community Survey launched on August 12 and will remain open through October 7, giving residents an opportunity to share their experiences and provide feedback about the community. The survey covers topics such as quality of life, community services, safety, and other areas that help the City better understand the needs and priorities of residents. Invitations to the survey will first be sent to randomly selected households. In a few weeks, the survey will become available to all residents.
Residents are encouraged to take a few minutes to complete the survey and share their perspective. Your feedback is important.

Regional Climate Action & Adaptation Plan
As the planning process for the Napa County Regional Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (RCAAP) reaches its final stages, the public is encouraged to provide feedback on the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Initial Study/Mitigated Declaration (IS/MND) that evaluated the potential environmental impacts associated with implementing the RCAAP.

Citizens Academy
The City of American Canyon invites residents to participate in the Citizens Academy, a free, nine-week program that provides an inside look at how City government operates. Participants will meet City staff, explore different departments, and learn how local government decisions impact everyday life in American Canyon.
Each week focuses on a different area of City government, including public safety, parks and recreation, finance, public works, planning and more. Through presentations, discussions and hands-on activities, participants will gain a better understanding of how City teams work together to build a safe, vibrant and well-managed community.
The 2026 program runs from September 16 through November 7 and is open to American Canyon residents ages 18 and older. Participation is limited to 30 residents. To learn more and register, visit the City's Citizens Academy online registration portal.
