Hello,
Pardon our dust! I’m sure you’ve seen construction activity around town. We know it can be an inconvenience sometimes, but we ask for your patience. These investments in our community’s future benefit everyone, and we appreciate your patience as we work to make it the best place to live, work and play.
The Green Island Road Project has moved into its most challenging phase, with detours between Paoli Loop and Devlin Road. During this work, temporary traffic changes and detours will be in place. We encourage all drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and use caution when traveling through the construction zone. Please review the detour map below to help you navigate through the area safely.

As any parent with small children will attest, safe and clean bathrooms are a must for playgrounds. The City Council is prioritizing new park amenities—the most recent example is at Northampton Park and Silver Oak Park, where new restroom facilities will be installed to enhance comfort and convenience for park visitors. While a small portion of each park will be temporarily closed during construction, the majority of park amenities, including playgrounds, will remain open and available for use.
At the same time, the Veterans Playground Replacement and Resurfacing Project is also underway. This exciting upgrade will transform the playground into a Neverland-inspired sea and land adventure, featuring inclusive play elements, climbers, swings and interactive features designed for all ages and abilities. Once completed later this spring, this reimagined space will offer a vibrant, engaging destination for our community.
During construction, we ask that you please respect all work zones for your safety and the safety of our crews, and follow all posted signage, barriers and directions. Together, these improvements reflect our ongoing commitment to creating safe, enjoyable and enhanced spaces for everyone in American Canyon.
Take Care,
Jason B. Holley City Manager

We know that topics like Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and rental options can feel complicated, and we regularly hear from residents who want to better understand what may be possible for their property.
ADUs are small, independent living spaces that may be added to a property with an existing residence. They can provide an additional, self-contained living space on the same lot. What makes ADUs especially flexible is the variety of ways they can be created. Depending on the site and applicable regulations, an ADU might be:
- A detached unit, such as a standalone backyard home
- An attached addition to your existing residence
- A converted space, such as a garage or other structure
- A portion of the primary residence configured into a separate unit
Each ADU includes its own kitchen, bathroom, and living area, making it a fully functional living space.
It’s important to note that not all properties are eligible for an ADU, and requirements can vary. In addition to ADUs, residents may also explore other residential options, such as renting existing spaces within their home, depending on local regulations. These options can provide additional flexibility, whether you are planning for family needs or considering rental income.
If you are interested in learning more, Napa County provides resources to help you understand requirements, permitting and next steps. To get started, visit Napa County ADU Resources.
We encourage you to explore these resources to learn more about what options may be right for you and your property.
Together in Service, Mayor Pierre Washington
