Two Arrested for Mail Theft, Child Endangerment in American Canyon
AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., Mar. 30, 2026 — On Tuesday, March 24, American Canyon Police Department Officers responded to a report of approximately forty mailboxes that had been broken into at 260 American Canyon Road. Through follow-up investigation, officers identified a suspect vehicle and obtained descriptions of the individuals involved.
On Monday, March 30, just before 7:00 A.M., officers located the involved blue Chevy Blazer parked in the 2900 block of Broadway. Officers observed two individuals, 40-year-old Joseph Wright and 32-year-old Sharde Hatchett, both of Vallejo actively working together stealing mail.
Both suspects were detained as the theft was occurring. During the investigation, officers located approximately fifty pieces of stolen mail belonging to different victims inside the vehicle.
Officers also discovered a nine-month-old infant in the back seat, not properly secured in a car seat. Suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle near the infant.
Wright and Hatchett were arrested and booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections on charges including child abuse, possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy, and offenses related to mail theft.
The infant was taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services.
