March 13, 2026
Hello,
March is National Women’s History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions women have made to our community and our nation. At the March 3 City Council meeting, the Council recognized Women’s History Month with a proclamation, which was accepted by Beth Goff, members of Soroptimist International of American Canyon, and several American Canyon residents. To further celebrate this month, the City released a video highlighting the contributions of women who helped shape American Canyon – from years before the city’s incorporation to today. Their leadership, service and dedication continue to strengthen our community.
As part of the City’s ongoing commitment to a safe and accessible community, a new raised crosswalk is being installed to enhance pedestrian safety on Melvin Road. Raised crosswalks help slow vehicle traffic and make pedestrian crossings more visible. Thank you to our Public Works team for their continued efforts to improve safety and accessibility on our City streets.

Beginning Monday, March 16, through Monday, April 20, the City will conduct its annual hydrant flushing program as part of ongoing maintenance to keep our water system reliable and our drinking water safe and clean.
American Canyon is divided into six service areas, or “zones,” and each zone will take approximately five to seven days to complete. Flushing will begin in Zone 1, which covers north of Airport Road and west of North Kelly Road and South Kelly Road, and will continue until all zones are complete.
During hydrant flushing, residents may experience temporary water discoloration. This is a normal occurrence during the flushing process, and water remains safe and drinkable. If you experience discoloration:
- Run your water from an outdoor hose or bib for five minutes
- Then, run your cold water indoors for a few minutes
- If discoloration persists, call (707) 647-5325 for assistance
We also recommend avoiding washing light-colored laundry while flushing is occurring in your zone. For more information about our annual maintenance program, and to view the flushing schedule and zone map, please visit: AmericanCanyon.gov/hydrantflushing.
Thank you to our City staff and community partners who continue working every day to keep American Canyon a safe, connected and vibrant community.
Take Care,
Jason B. Holley City Manager

American Canyon is fortunate to be surrounded by remarkable natural beauty, and one of the most exciting projects underway reflects our community’s deep connection to our Napa River wetlands: the Napa River Ecology Center.
Led by the American Canyon Community and Parks Foundation, under the leadership of Executive Director Janelle Sellick and her dedicated team and Board of Directors, the Ecology Center will become a vital community resource focused on stewardship, environmental education and conservation. The center will create opportunities for residents, students and visitors to come together through experiences that connect art, science and nature while inspiring environmental stewardship for generations to come.
Through outdoor learning spaces, interpretive exhibits and hands-on programs, the Ecology Center will help connect people with nature, sparking curiosity and fostering a deeper appreciation for the Napa River wetlands and the environment that surrounds us. In addition to its environmental and educational value, the Ecology Center will also serve as an economic and tourism driver for American Canyon by attracting visitors from across the region who will shop locally, dine in our restaurants and support our businesses throughout our community.
We are proud to celebrate that Congressman Mike Thompson secured $2 million in 2026 Federal Community Funded Grants, and last month the Foundation was awarded $2,769,000 from the California State Coastal Conservancy, bringing the project to 95% fully funded. With this strong support in place, and the project is now fully permitted and shovel-ready, groundbreaking is expected to take place this summer – an exciting step forward that will benefit our community for generations to come.
Projects like the Napa River Ecology Center reflect the very best of American Canyon, bringing people together while demonstrating our commitment to education and conservation, protecting our natural resources while planning thoughtfully for the future. Together in Service, Mayor Pierre Washington

Electric Dirt Bike Safety Reminder
The American Canyon Police Department reminds residents that electric dirt bikes are designed for off-road use and are not street legal in California unless they meet DMV requirements for registration, insurance and required safety equipment.
To be operated on public roads, vehicles must be properly registered and equipped with features such as mirrors, turn signals, lighting and license plates. Most electric dirt bikes do not meet these standards.
Under California Vehicle Code §38025, operating an unregistered or unlicensed electric dirt bike on public roads may result in fines, citations or vehicle impoundment.
