Alert Citizen Helps Catch Mail Thief

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., Dec. 9 2025 — Early Sunday morning, Dec. 7, a concerned citizen contacted the American Canyon Police Department after noticing a vehicle repeatedly parking near the mailboxes at the post office on Crawford Way. Aware of recent mail-theft incidents, the caller reported the behavior as suspicious and noted the car appeared at odd hours for long periods of time, always parked near the mailboxes.

Officers arrived and located the described BMW, contacting the driver, 43-year-old Los Angeles resident Dario Flores-Perez. Officers learned Flores-Perez is currently on probation for identity theft and conducted a search of both his person and vehicle.

Inside the car, officers found large quantities of opened mail addressed to multiple individuals who were not Flores-Perez. They also located identification cards and checks belonging to others and methamphetamine on his person. Officers also discovered a homemade “fishing” device made with duct tape and rat trap glue, commonly used to pull mail from collection boxes.

Flores-Perez was arrested for identity theft, possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance and booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections.

The investigation is ongoing.
