August 1, 2025
Hello,
We’re constantly investing in making American Canyon a strong, more connected community through the events that bring us together and the essential infrastructure that keeps our city moving.
We just released our first Budget in Brief, a clear, accessible snapshot of the City’s Fiscal Year 2025-26 Budget. This milestone document shows where our money comes from, where it goes and how it supports key priorities like public safety, parks, roads and our local economy. Be sure to watch the "How we fund the services you count on" video, starring Mayor Pierre Washington.
We are also making visible progress on critical infrastructure projects that will improve your experience:
-
Theresa Avenue Sewer Improvements: New sidewalks, resurfaced roads and upgraded sewer lines near Napa Junction Road and Theresa Avenue as part of the Oat Hill Multifamily Development.
-
Melvin Road: Ongoing sidewalk and storm drain work. Expect flaggers and possible delays.
-
Rancho Del Mar: Full pavement rehabilitation through August 28 on Rio Del Mar starting at W. Carolyn to SR 29. Full road closures are in effect during construction, with access limited to residents living on the street. Traffic control and detours are in place to help guide drives safely around the area.
Thank you for your patience as we work to enhance our community. For the latest updates on all active projects, please visit our Construction Updates page.
We’re also wrapping up summer with opportunities to come together. Next Tuesday, August 5, Celebrate National Night Out at your neighborhood’s block party. American Canyon’s Police Department, American Canyon City Council, American Canyon Fire Protection District and City staff will be making rounds throughout the evening, so be sure to say hi when you see us in your neighborhood!
Then, join us for our final Meet Me in the Street event of the season on August 13 from 5-8 p.m. Stop by the City of American Canyon table, and connect with our special guest: MCE Community Choice Energy! Come learn about deep green, clean energy and how to sign up for their services.
Thank you to everyone who has made this summer in American Canyon unforgettable.
Take care,
Jason B. Holley City Manager

Recently, I shared how our city budget helps fund the services we all count on, from police and fire to parks, road repairs, and youth programs. This week I want to talk more about where that funding comes from, and how we’re working to keep our city financially strong for the long run.
Our General Fund, which covers the core services our community depends on, is made up of several revenue resources. Most of it comes from property and sales tax, along with fees from permits, business licenses, fines, and investment earnings. What is important to know is that our revenue is not dependent on any one single source, and certainly not on tourism.
In some cities, hotel taxes (known as Transient Occupancy Tax or TOT) can make up a large portion of the budget. That means when travel slows down, so does their revenue. In American Canyon, our TOT only makes up about 6% of our General Fund revenue. That means our budget remains steady and dependable, even when tourism slows.
Building new homes in our community is about more than just growth, it’s about creating a stronger, more stable future. New housing expands our property tax base, which helps fund essential services like police, fire, schools, parks, and street maintenance. It also brings new families into our city who support our local businesses by dining, shopping, and using everyday services right here at home. By welcoming new residents, we’re spreading the cost of city services across a larger population, which helps ease the financial pressure on existing taxpayers. This thoughtful, planned growth is what helps keep our budget balanced, and ensures we can keep investing in the future together.
As you’ll see in the chart below, more than half of our general fund revenue comes from stable, local sources like property and sales tax.

That kind of steady support is what allows us to keep delivering services you depend on, from keeping neighborhoods safe, maintaining our parks and roads, and planning ahead for the things we know matter to you and your family.
Together in service, Mayor Pierre Washington

Going forward, the construction laydown area located at the corner of the park will be reopened to public parking as construction activities pause over the next several weeks. Work is on hold to accommodate the delivery of the gazebo structure and other park elements, which are expected to arrive by the end of September.
