Hello,
This month, the American Canyon Police Department (ACPD) participated in the Top the Cops program. This unique event allows local high school students to drag race against law enforcement officers—yes, in full uniform and official vehicles—on the same track used by top professional racers. It’s all about respect, safety, and a shared love of speed—on the track, not the streets.
We’re excited to share that ACPD will once again hit the strip at Sonoma Raceway on May 21 for this program! We encourage students to come out, participate, and experience this exciting and educational showdown! To participate in Top the Cops at Sonoma Raceway, high school students need to have a valid student identification, a driver's license and a car that passes a technical inspection. Students can visit SonomaRaceway.com or call (800) 870-RACE for more information and to register in advance.

Want to catch up on the past year’s highlights? The American Canyon Police Department’s Annual Report is now online. You can also view the presentation for the City Council on YouTube. Check out how we’ve been serving and supporting our community.
The American Canyon Police Department would like to congratulate City Communications Manager Jen Kansanback on her well-earned retirement. Jen’s collaboration, support, and friendship have meant the world to us. Whether working behind the scenes or right by our side, she played a crucial role in coordinating events, promoting community policing, and keeping the public informed.
Jen was also a key contributor to bringing our top crime fighter, Lobo, on board! Her presence will be deeply missed, but we are so excited about this next chapter in her life. Enjoy your retirement, Jen—you’ve truly earned it!

Rising Petty Theft in Local Stores
American Canyon businesses have seen a concerning uptick in petty theft, with 11 shoplifting incidents reported in just one week earlier this month. In response, we want to remind the community about key provisions of California’s Prop 36 Theft Enhancements:
Aggregated Theft: Multiple thefts can be combined to exceed the $950 threshold, allowing for felony charges instead of misdemeanors (Pen. Code § 490.3).
Repeat Offenders: Individuals with two prior theft-related convictions may face felony charges for subsequent petty theft or shoplifting (Pen. Code § 666.1).
Let’s work together to keep our community safe and informed. Remember, if you see something, say something! Call us at (707) 253-4451.

Special Persons Registry
American Canyon Police Department’s Special Persons Registry will assist our officers in being more responsive to residents of American Canyon with special needs. Maintained and utilized by the American Canyon Police Department and Napa Dispatch Center, the registry can help first responders identify those who cannot identify themselves due to a disability or special need, such as Alzheimer’s or dementia, autism, or a speech disorder. Complete the form online at AmericanCanyon.gov/SPRForm. If you have questions or need help completing the form, please contact American Canyon Police Department at (707) 551-0600.
