Vehicle pursuit on Highway 29 ends with arrest
and recovered firearm

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., April 22, 2025 - A traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon escalated into a high-speed vehicle pursuit from American Canyon, ultimately leading to the arrest of a Vallejo man and the recovery of a loaded firearm.

Just after 12:00 p.m., American Canyon Police made a traffic enforcement stop on a gray Mercedes traveling northbound on Highway 29 near South Kelly Road. The vehicle was speeding and had a broken brake light. Upon contacting the driver, later identified as 22-year-old Ulises Guzman of Vallejo, the situation took a dangerous turn.

Guzman fled the scene at a high rate of speed, prompting a vehicle pursuit northbound on Highway 29. The pursuit ended near the Highway 221 interchange, where the vehicle finally pulled over again. Guzman and his female passenger were detained without further incident.

During the course of the pursuit, officers suspected the driver may have discarded an item from the vehicle. A subsequent search of the route led to the discovery of a loaded Glock 19 Gen5 9mm semi-auto pistol lying in the roadway. Police believe the firearm was thrown from the car by Guzman during the chase.

Guzman was arrested and booked into Napa County Jail on multiple charges, including evading an officer with willful disregard for the public, illegal possession of a firearm within a vehicle, carrying an unregistered firearm and destruction of evidence.

No injuries occurred during the incident and the female passenger was released from the scene.
