Hello,
One of the things I appreciate most about this community is our strong spirit of volunteerism, whether it’s working with one of our nonprofits, working to better the community or demonstrating a long-term commitment to making American Canyon the best place to live, work and play.
Each year, we recognize one deserving individual who has been nominated by community members to receive the Gateway Award - an honor that celebrates significant volunteer contributions to our community. Please join me in congratulating this year’s Gateway Award nominees: Gio Ivan, Rose Maldonado, Eva Garcia, Charlotte Dougherty, Jarred Barrios, Heidi Zipay, Valerie Zizak-Morais, David Farley, Hugh Marquez, Allen Quisenberry, Lilia Tapia, Denisse Hunt, Marina Maldonado, Sindy Biederman, Toni Jo Bennett-Payne, Sophie Borgeaud, Michelle Leighty, Wilma Luna, Arvind Nischal and Rose Negrete.
The winner for this year’s Gateway Award will be announced at the Volunteer Recognition Ball on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the DoubleTree Hotel and Spa, from 5:00pm-9:00pm. To attend this event, be sure to grab your tickets before Monday, April 13.
In 2020, the City kicked off the General Plan Update process to guide our growth and alignment with the needs and priorities of our community. The General Plan serves as a long-term blueprint for the future — establishing goals, policies and actions that reflect our collective vision. As we near the final stages of this process, residents are invited to share their feedback at upcoming public meetings before the plan is adopted by City Council in June. To stay informed and receive notifications of these meetings, please visit the AmCan2040 page.
Now that it’s April, summer will be here before we know it! Residents now have the opportunity to register for all of the upcoming programs, camps, community events and more listed in the Summer Parks & Recreation Guide. Registration for non-residents opens on Tuesday, April 22.
Construction will begin on the Wetlands Edge project very soon. Once complete, this enhanced landscape will serve as a key destination for both residents and visitors, offering a range of activities that cater to diverse interests while preserving ecological integrity.
The construction period will last approximately 45 days, with an expected completion date of June 17, 2025. Due to this upcoming effort, Napa Junction Magnet Elementary School, Eagle’s Nest Preschool, surrounding neighborhoods and Wetlands Edge Park attendees will be impacted by the upcoming construction. For more information and construction updates, visit the Wetlands Edge Park page.
Take care, Jason B. Holley City Manager
