Vehicle Pursuit Ends in Vallejo with DUI Arrest

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., March 25, 2025 - A high-speed pursuit that began in American Canyon early Tuesday morning ended in Vallejo with the arrest of a suspected intoxicated driver.

Just after 1:00 a.m., an American Canyon Police officer observed a red Dodge sedan traveling at a high rate of speed on southbound Highway 29 near Donaldson Way. The officer also noted that the vehicle was weaving and struggling to maintain its lane, prompting suspicions of impaired driving. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver failed to yield and continued into the city of Vallejo, initiating a vehicle pursuit.

During the chase, the driver repeatedly waved his hand out the window and appeared to be shouting. At one point, he pulled over to the side of the road, only to speed off again, running red lights and reaching speeds of up to 80 miles per hour.

The pursuit concluded in the area of Magazine Street and Lincoln Avenue in Vallejo when the officer successfully performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, disabling the Dodge. Officers safely took the driver, identified as 19-year-old Samuel Cortes of Vallejo, into custody. Upon investigation, officers discovered an open bottle of whiskey on the vehicle's floorboard.

Cortes was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was booked into Napa County Jail on charges of felony evading an officer with willful disregard for public safety and DUI.
