American Canyon City Council supports expansion
of its Sphere of Influence
AMERICAN CANYON, CA, March 19, 2025 - The American Canyon City Council agrees to support a pending application to the Napa County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO). The landowner’s application proposes to expand American Canyon’s Sphere of Influence (SOI). Although the property at 1661 Green Island Road was originally contemplated to be part of American Canyon’s incorporation back in 1992, it currently sits just outside city limits. With LAFCO’s approval now, it could eventually be annexed into American Canyon at a later date.
American Canyon’s support illustrates a new chapter of collaboration with Napa County and LAFCO. The Council’s letter is symbolic - it does not determine how the property will be used. Rather, it opens the door for a thoughtful, transparent discussion about what happens next.
The City Council embraces the fresh opportunity to engage our local government partners and the community by carefully evaluating relevant considerations about future uses - including the provision of municipal services, financial sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
