American Canyon Police Arrest Elk Grove Man for Identity Theft

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., February 20, 2025 - Shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, American Canyon Police officers conducted a traffic stop on a silver Mercedes with expired registration on eastbound American Canyon Road, just prior to Canyon Road. The routine stop quickly escalated into an identity theft investigation.

The driver, identified as 35-year-old Brian Light of Elk Grove, informed officers that he was currently on probation in Placer County. A records check confirmed Light and his adult female passenger were both on probation for identity theft.

During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered eight credit cards inside Light's wallet, none of which belonged to either him or his passenger. Additionally, two more credit cards, also not registered to either occupant, were found within Light's reach in the center console.

Further investigation revealed multiple Amazon delivery packages in the backseat with the shipping labels removed, an apparent attempt to conceal the intended recipients' identities.

Based on the evidence, officers arrested Light for identity theft, and he was booked into Napa County Jail.
