Driver Arrested After High-Speed Chase Across Multiple Counties
AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., January 27, 2025 - A 19-year-old man was arrested late Sunday night after leading law enforcement officers on a dangerous high-speed chase that spanned multiple cities and counties.
At approximately 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2025, officers from the American Canyon Police Department were assisting with a large sideshow in North Vallejo near the American Canyon city limits. During the operation, officers observed a dark-grey, two-door Infiniti without license plates leaving the scene at a high rate of speed. The vehicle quickly caught the attention of law enforcement, and a pursuit ensued.
The chase began on Flosden Drive and American Canyon Road, and the suspect continued fleeing onto westbound Highway 80, speeding through Vallejo. As the pursuit moved into Contra Costa County, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) air unit took over tracking the vehicle from above. The driver reached alarming speeds of up to 140 miles per hour. The chase continued into Oakland, where the suspect eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. After a brief search, law enforcement located the driver hiding in a toolbox on Aileen Street in Oakland.
The suspect, later identified as Favian Gonzales Vancorner of San Francisco, was taken into custody without further incident. Vancorner was arrested on felony charges of evading an officer with willful disregard for the safety of others, as well as felony evading an officer against traffic. Vancorner was transported to Napa County Jail, where he was booked on the charges.
