As we welcome the new year, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for our incredible community. Over the past year, we’ve made great strides in shaping a vibrant and thriving city, and I’m excited about the opportunities that lie ahead in 2025.
This year, our team remains committed to fostering smart growth, enhancing public spaces, and ensuring a high quality of life for all residents and businesses. In this first edition of the year of our Around Town Newsletter I’d like to introduce you to some of our team members, share our upcoming meetings and projects that are under review.

The Planning Commission holds public hearings on proposed development plans, conditional use permits, subdivision maps, and other land use matters, as well as proposed changes to the Zoning Ordinance, Zoning Map, and the General Plan. They assist in preparing amendments to the General Plan and Zoning Ordinance, and preparing specific plans.
The Planning Commission will meet on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. The following items are on the agenda:
- Oath of Office for New Planning Commissioners
- Crawford Way Multifamily Project Design Permit
- 285 Napa Junction Citation Appeal
- Selection of Planning Commission Chair and Vice Chair for 2025
- Review January 2025 Active Planning Projects

American Canyon is evolving, and development projects are shaping our city. While development and construction can be exciting and disruptive, we are committed to providing timely and accurate updates on all ongoing activities. William He is the Senior Planner in the Planning Division and has been with the City for 9 years. He graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in History and East Asian Languages and obtained a Master of Urban Planning from San Jose State University.
William assists with development projects, staff reports, and public outreach efforts related to Planning and Zoning. He grew up in Oakland and now lives with his wife in El Cerrito. William’s favorite places in town are the Wetland’s Edge Trail and Le Paris Café. His hobbies are traveling, watching movies, and hiking.

Laura Welch has been a member of the Building Division for 7 years. Growing up in American Canyon, she considers serving the community she calls home a privilege. Laura and her husband, now empty nesters, reside in American Canyon.
As the Permit Technician, Laura is responsible for processing permit applications, assessing fees, issuing permits, and assisting developers and residents with any questions or concerns regarding the permit process.
Outside of work, she enjoys a variety of hobbies, including visiting Disneyland, attending live music events, building Legos, and camping with her family.

Tiffany Ford has been the Code Enforcement Officer for the City of American Canyon for three years. This year marks her 10th year as a Code Enforcement Officer. Born and raised in San Francisco, she values diversity and working with different people. Her role often requires coordinating efforts with building officials, law enforcement, fire safety, and legal personnel. She aims to provide health, safety, and welfare to the residents of American Canyon by enforcing the municipal code. On her off days, she enjoys homemaking, puzzles, biking, and traveling to different areas of California. |

Nicolle Hall is the Deputy City Clerk in the Community Development Department; she has been with the City of American Canyon for seven years. She supports the Planning Commission and Community Development staff, fostering transparency through public notices, community outreach, and engagement for development projects.
Fun fact: Nicolle was a professional chef and even owned a wholesale bakery, supplying pastries to local coffee shops – including Roosters, which many longtime residents might remember (it’s now Thai Kitchen!). When she’s not at work, Nicolle loves cooking for family and friends, traveling, and gardening.

Julieanne Geilfuss is the Office Assistant in the Community Development Department. She has been with the City of American Canyon for 2 years and a resident of the community for 15 years. Julieanne assists the Department with processing payments for permits, mailing out public notices for planning projects and Public Records Requests.
In her spare time, she enjoys home improvement projects, going to the movies and spending time with her 11-year-old daughter.
