DUI Arrest Leads to Seizure of Illegal Firearms and Drugs

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., November 14, 2024 - In the early morning hours of Thursday, November 14, 2024, American Canyon Police officers conducted a traffic stop on a white Toyota Camry on Newell Drive near American Canyon High School. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Damar Gaines from Vallejo, was suspected of driving under the influence (DUI).

Upon evaluation, officers confirmed that Gaines was impaired, with a blood alcohol content twice the legal limit. It was also discovered that he had a suspended license due to a prior DUI arrest. Gaines was subsequently arrested, and during a search of his vehicle, officers located a loaded, unregistered 9mm Smith & Wesson firearm under his seat.

The passenger, 37-year-old Deon Finley from Oakland, was found to have a concealed, loaded .40 caliber Glock handgun in his waistband, which was also unregistered. Further investigation revealed that Finley was in possession of illegal drugs.

Gaines and Finley were taken into custody and booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections on multiple charges related to the incident.
