American Canyon Police arrest driver under the influence, discover illegal firearm
AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., Oct. 18, 2024 - On the evening of Oct. 17, shortly after 11 p.m., American Canyon Police pulled over a Hyundai Elantra traveling southbound on Highway 29 near American Canyon Road. The vehicle was observed making several abrupt and unsafe lane changes, leading officers to suspect that the driver might be under the influence.
Upon contacting the two occupants, officers noticed smoke billowing from inside the vehicle and detected the smell of freshly burnt marijuana. They also observed marijuana in plain view inside the Hyundai. Police identified the driver as 30-year-old Jose Canjura and the passenger as 29-year-old Paul Perkins, both from Fairfield, CA.
Field sobriety tests were conducted on Canjura, who was found to be driving under the influence. Police K-9 Brick was present and alerted officers to the presence of illegal items inside the car. A search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded, unregistered Glock 43 firearm and suspected narcotics under the passenger seat.
Both Canjura and Perkins were arrested and booked into county jail on felony charges related to the possession of the illegal firearm. Canjura also faced additional charges for driving under the influence
