Firearms and drug arrest after vehicle chase involving a stolen vehicle
AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., Oct. 10, 2024 - On Oct.10, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., American Canyon Police Officers located a stolen silver 2023 Chevrolet truck traveling southbound on SR-29, near American Canyon Road. ACPD officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Gilroy. The driver stopped at Meadows and Echo Summit Drive in Vallejo. While ACPD officers were ordering the driver out of the vehicle, the driver suddenly took off at a high rate of speed, eventually re-entering SR-29 and driving recklessly at speeds of 100 mph.
After evading ACPD officers for several miles, the driver circled back to the original stop location, lost control of the truck and crashed into a power pole at southbound SR-29 and Meadows Drive. CHP air support arrived on scene and observed the driver, the sole occupant, fleeing the vehicle on foot. Following a short foot pursuit, ACPD officers were able to arrest the male driver. During the chase, the suspect threw a backpack he had been wearing.
A search of the backpack revealed methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Inside the stolen vehicle, officers located a loaded Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver. The driver, 39-year-old Vallejo resident Howard Edejer, a convicted felon on PRCS probation in Solano County, was booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections on several felony charges related to firearms and drug possession, as well as stolen property charges. He is currently in custody with bail set at $100,000.
