Seven-hour standoff in American Canyon ends in arrest

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., September 14, 2024 - A seven-hour standoff in American Canyon on Friday night ended with the arrest of 52-year-old resident John Galeotti.

At approximately 10:00 p.m., American Canyon Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Kimberly Drive after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers learned that Galeotti was preventing a woman from leaving the house and had threatened to harm her, as well as responding officers with a knife. Galeotti made repeated threats during the ordeal.

Despite the suspect's violent behavior, the female victim was able to escape from the home. She ran into the backyard, where police were waiting, and was unharmed. Galeotti, however, remained inside the residence, barricading himself and fortifying several doors within the house. For the next several hours, he yelled from within, continuing to threaten officers and reportedly claiming he had access to weapons. His refusal to cooperate resulted in a prolonged standoff.

The American Canyon Police Department called in support from the Napa County Sheriff's Office and Napa Police Department's SWAT and Crisis Negotiations teams. After hours of negotiation attempts, officers entered the home, eventually locating Galeotti in an upstairs bedroom. When confronted, he physically fought and resisted officers.

Galeotti was safely taken into custody and is facing multiple charges, including felony resisting an officer, felon in possession of tear gas, false imprisonment by violence, domestic battery, and violation of formal probation. He is being held without bail at the Napa County Department of Corrections. The investigation remains ongoing.
