Report of reckless driving leads to vehicle pursuit and arrest

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., August 19, 2024, 1:00 p.m. - On Friday, August 16, 2024, just before 10:00 p.m., American Canyon Police Officers received a report of two cars driving recklessly and doing donuts in the intersection of Knightsbridge and Chaucer Lane.

When driving to the area, officers became involved in a vehicle pursuit with a black Infiniti that was suspected of being involved. The pursuit began just north of the City on Mini Drive and Highway 29 when the vehicle immediately took off at a high rate of speed after the officer got behind it. The Infiniti reached speeds of 80 miles per hour on Mini Drive, then crashed into a curb at the intersection of Mini Drive and Lewis Brown in Vallejo.

The driver, identified as 19-year-old Avant Bruce of Benicia, fled on foot from the crash but was caught and arrested by American Canyon Police a short distance away. Officers learned the Infiniti was reported stolen out of Richmond and found burglary tools, illegal brass knuckle weapons and illegal hallucinogen drugs in the car. Avant was booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections for charges related to the incident and, as of Monday morning, was being held on $100,000 bail.
