Hello,
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's Memorial Day Ceremony. It was a beautiful tribute to honor and remember our fallen heroes and stand beside our Gold Star Families. I am grateful to everyone involved in the organization of this event, including American Canyon Troop Support, VFW Post 1123, American Canyon Community Church, American Canyon Army Recruiting Station, American Canyon High School’s Public Display of Acapella, Canyon Oaks Elementary School students, Open Door Church, Jesse Martinez, Delphine Metcalf-Foster, Jeremy Profitt, American Canyon Starbucks, Fran Lemos, Sindy Biederman, Beth Marcus, Hugh Marquez and Mark & Julie Foster. The photos from the event are available here.
As the days get warmer and the sun shines brighter, it's clear that summer is quickly approaching! Here are a few exciting updates and events to look forward to:
This week, we celebrated the graduation of our Employee Citizens Academy. Over seven weeks, 16 city employees explored our city's departments and operations. This program helped them understand how our work in AmCan is interconnected and serves the community. Participants met colleagues from other departments, had lunch with department directors, toured city facilities and gained a bird's eye view of each department.

Hydrant Flushing
Heads up, AmCan! This week, our Water Crew began conducting hydrant flushing throughout the city. The service will be divided into each of the six established service areas, with each service area taking 4-7 days.
Hydrant flushing involves opening fire hydrants to run a large volume of water at a high velocity, and is an important maintenance procedure to remove particle buildup in the City’s water mains. During this time, you may experience water discoloration when work is being performed in your zone. This is caused by particles and minerals that were settled in the water mains being discharged. Please know that water will remain safe to use and generally clears within a few hours after flushing has been completed. Residents are also encouraged to monitor their water prior to starting laundry, especially when washing white clothes.
If you notice water discoloration while work is being conducted in your zone, please run the water at the outdoor hose bibs for five minutes, then run cold water inside until the discoloration disappears.
For weekly updates on the the hydrant flushing zone, visit our Construction Updates page.

Maintenance Activity at Wetlands Ponds Along Napa River Bay Trail
Beginning May 31, 2024, a contractor will perform maintenance on the wetland ponds along the Napa River Bay Trail. These ponds were constructed as part of the Water Reclamation Facility and are therefore required to be maintained under the current order issued by the State Water Board. The work will include clearing some of the tules from the outfalls and ramps, as well as stabilizing the levee between the two ponds. Access to the trails will not be disturbed by this work.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Pam Phillips, Environmental Services Manager, at 707-647-4544 or pphillips@cityofamericancanyon.org.
