April 26, 2024
Hello,
Congratulations to our very own Liz Corey, 2024 Napa County Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Corey is an amazing third-grade teacher at Canyon Oaks Elementary School and will proudly represent Napa County at the state level this year. Also, congratulations to Donaldson Way, second-grade teacher Cathy Margolati, for her nomination to this award, too. Great job, ladies!
We host a Citizens Academy each fall to help develop future community leaders by creating well-informed and engaged residents. More than 100 citizens have graduated from the American Canyon Citizens Academy. If you're interested in participating in this year's session, which will be held from September to November 2024, you can apply now.
Later this year, a City contractor will re-pave Rio Del Mar. The roadway will be designed to accommodate bicyclists. We value your input and want to hear your thoughts on two design options (see images in Upcoming Public Meetings section). Option 1 provides a shared bike lane and retains parking on both sides. Option 2 provides a striped bike lane and removes parking on the north side. These options will be discussed at the Open Space, Active Transportation and Sustainability Commission meeting on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Scroll down for the meeting details and how to provide your input.

Phillip West Aquatic Center Closure
The Phillip West Aquatic Center remains closed. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by this abrupt closure and share the community's frustration over the situation. We want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to resolve this quickly.
Unfortunately, the closure has been longer than anticipated due to the challenge of sourcing and securing all necessary heater parts. Regrettably, it is not a simple fix; we must rebuild the entire heater completely due to a significant leak.
However, we're pleased to share that all required parts have been ordered and anticipate their delivery soon. We aim to complete the necessary work within the next few weeks. Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging time. We understand this closure's impact on our community and lifeguard staff, and we are committed to restoring full access to the Aquatics Center as soon as possible. Please contact Parks & Recreation Director Alexandra Ikeda at aikeda@cityofamericancanyon.org or (707) 647-4568 if you have any questions.
