American Canyon renews Measure T funding to further road improvements
AMERICAN CANYON, CA, April 9, 2024 - Proper road infrastructure plays a vital role in the development of a city. Quality road systems foster economic growth, decrease vehicular accidents, connect rural and urban areas and generally increase residents’ quality of life. That is why American Canyon has, and will continue, to take significant steps towards improving its local roads and streets.
Since passing Measure T — a ½ cent sales tax earmarked for road improvements — in 2012, American Canyon has made notable improvements to road pavement, bike facilities, sidewalk gaps, curb ramps and crosswalks. In 2022 and 2023 alone, American Canyon completed a total of 4.6 miles of road improvements, including rehabilitating substantial segments of Donaldson Way. The City also closed the sidewalk gap on Eucalyptus Dr., improved bicycle and pedestrian lanes on American Canyon Way and installed or replaced a number of curb ramps throughout the city.
“Investing in our roads is an investment in safety and quality of life for our residents, so I’m proud of the strides we’ve made in recent years,” said City Manager Jason Holley. “We are committed to continually improving our infrastructure to fuel sustainable growth and enhance connectivity and accessibility to drive progress forward.”
American Canyon has already strengthened this commitment by extending Measure T through 2029 and approving a five-year plan for further capital road improvements throughout the city. American Canyon will continue to receive 7.7% of total Measure T funds allocated to Napa County, 99 percent of which is mandated to be used towards local street maintenance. In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, the City allocated over $500,000 of Measure T funds towards a full reconstruction of Benton Way and roughly $900,000 of Measure T funds towards cape seal pavement rehabilitation throughout American Canyon.
“I am thrilled about the major road improvements to come in the next five years and beyond.” said Erica Smithies Ahmann, Public Works Director. “Our goal is to develop and maintain the best quality roads for our residents, and I am confident that this plan is a major step in the right direction.”
While the City is proud to have made significant progress in road maintenance, it remains dedicated to enhancing services and resident experiences and will continue to seek opportunities to improve transportation infrastructure in the coming years.
