American Canyon to celebrate opening of new skatepark with ribbon cutting ceremony

AMERICAN CANYON, CA, April 3, 2024 - American Canyon proudly announces the grand opening of the city’s eagerly-awaited skatepark at Veterans Memorial Park (2801 Broadway) with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the park at 3:30 PM on April 10, 2024. This occasion represents the completion of a year-long process to provide the community with a more robust, accessible skatepark.

The skatepark, previously situated at a temporary location behind American Canyon Middle School and Phillip West Aquatic Center, was fenced and closed to the public during school hours. Responding to the growing need for expanded outdoor recreational opportunities, American Canyon City Council decided to house the permanent skatepark at Veterans Memorial Park, where it could be open and available for use during park hours from sunrise to sunset.

“Reopening the city’s skatepark in a new-and-improved space embodies American Canyon’s commitment to recreation accessibility,” said Mayor Leon Garcia. “We are excited to unveil this new chapter in our community and witness locals take advantage of the new facilities.”

Veterans Memorial Park was deemed the most optimal location for relocation due to the park’s visible location, ample parking, accommodation for a concrete pad and overall ease of access. The enhanced skatepark also boasts new features, including a concrete mini-bowl, a larger concrete big bowl, ledges, banks, stairs, long quarters and more.

“It’s always our priority to enhance recreational offerings in our community,” Garcia said. “Our new skatepark is just one more reason why American Canyon is the best place to live, work and play.”

All community members are invited to celebrate this exciting occasion at the ribbon cutting ceremony on April 10, 2024 at 3:30 PM. To RSVP for the event, please email Becky Hendryx at rhendryx@cityofamericancanyon.org.
