Man arrested following an early morning vehicle pursuit

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., November 27, 2023 - On Monday morning around 5:30 AM, American Canyon Police Officers located a reported stolen Ford truck from Yolo County traveling northbound on Highway 29 near Paoli Loop Road. Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the truck. However, the driver took off at a high speed, leading officers on a vehicle pursuit towards Napa. The driver, later identified as 33-year-old Oakland resident Thomas Melching, continued into the City of Napa and collided with an oncoming motorist and parked car on Soscol Avenue. Melching ran from the scene of the collision but was arrested by officers a short distance away. Melching was on PRCS (Post Release Community Supervision) from San Joaquin County for identity theft and had two felony warrants from Yolo County. In addition to Melching’s arrest for his warrants, he was charged locally with felony evading an officer, resisting arrest, hit and run, receiving stolen property and possession of methamphetamine. The uninvolved motorist was not injured during the collision. Melching was booked into the Napa Department of Corrections.
