Walmart theft leads to pursuit and arrest in American Canyon

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., August 10, 2023 - On August 9, 2023, around 6:00 PM, American Canyon Police officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a red Jeep near Walmart, after the Jeep was reported to have just been involved in a theft from the store. The Jeep took off at a high rate of speed down surface streets in the city, then collided with a curb near James and Wilson Road. Following the collision, the driver fled from officers on foot, but was captured and arrested a short distance away. 

The driver was identified as 35-year-old transient Christian Lastima. Stolen merchandise from Walmart was recovered inside the Jeep. Lastima was booked into Napa County Department of Corrections for charges including hit and run, felon in possession of pepper spray, evading an officer in traffic, resisting arrest and for his warrant from San Mateo County.
