Two Arrested in Richmond After Pursuit from American Canyon
AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., March 27, 2023 - On Sunday, March 26, 2023, near 4:30 PM, American Canyon Police Officers made a traffic stop on southbound Highway 29 and Poco Way on a black Chevy Impala that showed no license plates. The vehicle was occupied by an adult male and his mom. The driver refused to show valid identification or a driver’s license to officers during the stop, claiming he was a sovereign citizen and did not have to comply with officer’s directions or laws of the government. Officers asked the driver and the passenger multiple times to step out of the car and both refused. The driver then took off at high rate of speed southbound when officers were standing inside the vehicle's open doorway, trying to take the driver out of the car.
American Canyon officers pursued the vehicle into Vallejo, at which point a CHP Air unit assisted by following the suspect’s car from the air above. CHP Air and American Canyon ground units took both driver and passenger into custody in the City of Richmond a short time later. When examining the suspect’s car, officers found an illegal electronic license plate flipping & concealing device installed on the car. The driver was ultimately identified as 41-year-old Eddy Perez of San Pablo, CA, and the passenger as 66-year-old Janet Perez. Both occupants were arrested for felony and misdemeanor charges related to this incident including resisting an officer. The driver, Eddy Perez, was also arrested for felony warrants from Kern and Solano Counties. Both Eddy and his mom were booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections.
